Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to be flanked by Army with special link to royal at wedding

The military forces have held a special place in Harry's heart after the ginger royal served in the British Army and it has now been announced they will feature in the his royal wedding to Meghan on May 19 later this year.

More than 250 members of the Armed Forces will participate in the ceremony and then later in the carriage procession through Windsor, the palace said.

It was also announced the Band of the Irish Guards will play for fans lining the streets outside Windsor Castle – which is fitting as the Colonel of the Regiment is Harry’s brother Prince William.

Kensington Palace in a statement said: "Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle are pleased that members of the Armed Forces will play such a special role in their Wedding.

"The Military, and these units in particular, hold a great significance for Prince Harry and the couple are incredibly grateful for their support."

Prince Harry joined The Blues and Royals in April 2006 and served with the Household Cavalry Regiment, where he undertook two tours of Afghanistan rose to the rank of Captain.

A Kensington Palace statement said: “The Ministry of Defence is pleased to confirm details of the contribution of members of the Armed Forces to the wedding of HRH Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle on 19 May 2018.

"Regiments and units that hold a special relationship with Prince Harry will provide ceremonial support at the wedding and during the carriage procession at the request of Kensington Palace.

“More than 250 members of the Armed Forces will perform ceremonial duties at the wedding.

"Members of the Household Cavalry will form a staircase party at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle as part of the wedding.

“The State Trumpeters and a Captain’s Escort from the Household Cavalry will also provide ceremonial support.”
