Drake gives Ninja $5000 for winning 'Fortnite' on Twitch

Drake has given video game streamer Ninja $5,000 (£3,519) for winning their latest Fortnite battle on Twitch.

Fortnite was released last year and allows up to four players to undertake missions in a scenario where 98 percent of the Earth’s population has been wiped out by a storm, and the remaining two percent are at the mercy of zombie-like figures.

Drake and Ninja have previously livestreamed their Fortnite sessions on Twitch before, including in March when they broke the record for the most-viewed live broadcast on the platform during a game with Travis Scott and NFL star JuJu Smith-Schuster.

During the pair’s most recent game, Drake – who plays under the handle TheBoyDuddus – said he would give $5,000 to Ninja if he won. The streamer followed that offer by gaining 16 kills, securing the money. “I’m a man of my word, I got you,” Drake said when he claimed the victory. “Send me the info, I got you.”

Earlier this month, Fortnite became the most viewed game in YouTube history. Historically, Minecraft has dominated Youtube as the reigning champ of gaming views. However, Fortnite reached over 2.4 billion views in February alone, Rolling Stone reports.

Youtube’s director of VR/AR Gaming also revealed that Fornite “holds the record for the most videos related to a video game uploaded in a single month”.
