Kendrick, Lorde, MGMT, Amy Shark and more play Splendour

RAPPER Kendrick Lamar will headline this year’s Splendour in the Grass Festival in Byron Bay.

In good news for fans in other states, it looks like he will play other dates outside the iconic festival.

The only Splendour exclusives this year are Kiwi singer Lorde (who toured Australia last year), American indie rockers Vampire Weekend, American teen Khalid, rock stalwart Henry Rollins and the return of US DJ Girl Talk, who helped start the mashup craze.

The line-up also includes perennial Brit favourites The Wombats, US R & B star Miguel, Scottish trio ChVrches, US band MGMT, UK band Franz Ferdinand as well as James Bay, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Ben Howard, the Jungle Giants, Strokes member Albert Hammond Jr and Chromeo.

They would all be expected to announce Australian sideshows on the back of their Splendour dates.

However rumours Arctic Monkeys would fit Splendour into their recently announced 2018 shows have proved to be false.

Local talent includes Gang of Youths, Hilltop Hoods, Angus and Julia Stone, Dune Rats, Pnau, Ball Park Music, DMAs, Methyl Ethel, the Jungle Giants, Dean Lewis and — following criticism about gender balance in festival line-ups — an array of female acts including Amy Shark, Alex Lahey, Alex the Astronaut, Stella Donnelly, Nina Las Vegas, Sampa the Great, Angie McMahon and more.

Splendour runs July 20 to 22 at Byron Parklands.

Tickets go on sale 9am Thursday April 19 through Moshtix.

Tickets are $399 for three days, single days are $179, camping is $129 — with booking fees and credit card charges for tickets on top.
