Rude joke that shocked Project panel

HE’S The Project panellist you can count on to lighten the mood with some comedic relief.

But on Thursday, one of Peter Helliar’s jokes ended up a little too rude for the before-7pm timeslot.

After Carrie Bickmore read a news bulletin about how sex on Mars could create a new human subspecies due to the low gravity, Helliar was ready with a zinger to spice things up.

“If you reckon sex on Mars is hard what about sex on Uranus, that will be really tricky,” the comedian said.

“That’s a very different planet.”

The rude joke scored whoops from the studio audience, but left Bickmore gaping in shock while Waleed Aly just shook his head.

“We are just going to leave that now,” Bickmore replied, while guest panellist Rachel Corbett added: “You are on your own mate, you are on your own.”

With none of the panel joining in on his joke Helliar looked rather sheepish as he accused his colleagues of “leaving somebody hanging”.

But the X-rated joke didn’t go unnoticed by people watching at home, with viewers equal parts amused and annoyed by Helliar’s comment.

Waleed passed some of the feedback on later in the program, revealing how one viewer’s seven-year-old had recommended Helliar become a comedian.

“I wonder if she had to talk to her seven-year-old about your joke,” Bickmore added.

The Project airs on Network 10 at 6.30pm from Sunday-Friday
