Rapper XXXTentacion eerily foreshadowed his own death

Rapper XXXTentacion posted a video on Instagram just a few months ago, in which he foreshadowed his own violent demise.

“Worst thing comes to worst, I f**king die a tragic death or some s**t — and I’m not able to see out my dreams — I at least want to know that the kids perceived my message and were able to make something of themselves and able to take my message and use it and turn it into something positive,” the 20-year-old said on the video. “And to at least have a good life.”

XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shot and killed Monday in South Florida in what police described as an armed robbery. The clip of him speaking about his death was posted earlier this year, according to the Miami Herald, though it’s unclear when.

“If I’m gonna die, or ever be a sacrifice, I want to make sure that my life made at least 5 million kids happy — or they found some sort of answers or resolve in my life,” Onfroy added. “Regardless of the negative around my name.”

While the Look at Me! lyricist had a huge following and blossoming music career, he was also known for his dark past.

Onfroy was arrested in 2016 for assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Geneva Ayala, who claimed to have been hit regularly. Before that, he was busted multiple times for a wide array of crimes — including armed robbery, burglary, resisting arrest and gun possession.

Ayala described some of the alleged abuse that she suffered at the hands of Onfroy in an interview with the Miami New Times last month.

“His favourite thing was to just backhand my mouth,” she said. “That always left welts inside my lips.”

The controversial Soundcloud rapper was also known to threaten suicide in an attempt to keep Ayala from leaving him, she said, noting how he’d often take a microwave and dangle it over a bathtub filled with water. The young woman almost always chose to stay, until finally the alleged abuse just became too much to bear.

Ayala remembered waking up one day — after Onfroy allegedly penetrated her vagina with a “long-handled barbecue fork” — and saying enough is enough.

“When I came to, I remember just thinking, ‘I cannot let this happen to me,’” she recalled. “‘This, right here, cannot happen to me.’”

Last October, Onfroy announced that he would be donating $100,000 to domestic violence prevention programs following media reports about his relationship with Ayala. However, there’s reportedly no evidence or proof of the transaction.

The young man isn’t the first rapper to foreshadow his own death. Some of hip-hop’s most legendary lyricists talked about their demise in songs and videos, with both Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. doing so in the 1990s.
