TV Week Logies 2018: The nominees and who is likely to win

QUEENSLAND plays host to the TV Week Logies this Sunday night and it’s set to be a sparkling affair on the Glitter Strip, but who is expected to win, and who will walk home with the coveted Gold Logie? Our experts have the answers.

TV WEEK GOLD LOGIE – Best Personality On Australian TV

* Amanda Keller (The Living Room, Network Ten)

* Andrew Winter (Love It Or List It Australia/Selling Houses Australia,

Foxtel – Lifestyle)

* Grant Denyer (Family Feud/All Star Family Feud, Network Ten)

* Jessica Marais (Love Child, Nine Network; The Wrong Girl, Network Ten)

* Rodger Corser (Doctor Doctor, Nine Network)

* Tracy Grimshaw (A Current Affair, Nine Network)

Kristy Symonds: Tracy may be the favourite but I think it would be great to see the wonderful Andrew Winter win this one.

Amy Price: My heart says Grant Denyer but it will be Tracy Grimshaw’s year. The bookies always know.

Astrid Taemets: As much as I’d love to see Amanda Keller walk away with the Gold, I think Tracy might have this one in the bag.

Most Popular Actor

* Aaron Jeffery (Underbelly Files: Chopper, Nine Network)

* Erik Thomson (800 Words, Channel 7)

* Luke McGregor (Rosehaven, ABC)

* Ray Meagher (Home And Away, Channel 7)

* Rodger Corser (Doctor Doctor, Nine Network)

Kristy Symonds: I think Aaron Jeffery is an outside chance but Rodger Corser is the obvious winner.

Amy Price: Rodger Corser will win but I’m giving an honourable mention to Ray Meagher for surviving yet another death scare on Home and Away.

Astrid Taemets: I’m rooting for Rodger Corser here. The doctor will always get my vote.

Most Popular Actress

* Asher Keddie (Offspring, Network Ten)

* Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven/Utopia, ABC)

* Deborah Mailman (Cleverman, ABC)

* Jessica Marais (Love Child, Nine Network; The Wrong Girl, Network Ten)

* Julia Morris (House Husbands, Nine Network)

Kristy Symonds: I’m still clinging onto old re-runs of Offspring and crying over Patrick’s death, so Asher Keddie is my pick.

Amy Price: Jessica Marais’ Logies snub might cost her some votes but she’ll still snag the win. Two shows not on TV is better than one.

Astrid Taemets: Do I have to pick just one? I’d love to see it go to Deborah Mailman, but I think Julia Morris will reel in the viewer votes.

Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent

* Dilruk Jayasinha (CRAM!, Network Ten; Utopia, ABC)

* Matty Johnson (The Living Room, Network Ten)

* Sam Frost (Home And Away, Channel 7)

* Sophia Forrest (Love Child, Nine Network)

* Sophie Dillman (Home And Away, Channel 7)

Kristy Symonds: I’m torn between my hometown of Perth and adopted home of Brisbane – so it’s either Sophia or Matty for me, but Sam Frost seems most likely to take it out.

Amy Price: Dilruk Jayasinha is the dark horse to look out for here.

Astrid Taemets: I love Fro but I have to stay loyal and go with Brissy boy Matty J. He’s come a long way since his Bachie days, and I can’t wait to see more of that mug on the screen.

Most Popular Reality Program

* I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! (Network Ten)

* Married At First Sight (Nine Network)

* My Kitchen Rules (Channel 7)

* The Block (Nine Network)

* Travel Guides (Nine Network)

Kristy Symonds: I want to see The Block scoop this award for the fourth year in a row.

Amy Price: This is Channel 9’s to lose. I’d love to see Travel Guides swoop in. The Fren family on stage would be a beautiful disaster.

Astrid Taemets: I’m a hardcore Block devotee. Always have been, always will be. Props to MAFS for making a seriously entertaining season, though. If I could pick a runner-up they’d be it.

Most Outstanding Drama Series

* A Place To Call Home (Foxtel – Showcase)

* Doctor Doctor (Nine Network)

* Harrow (ABC)

* Top Of The Lake: China Girl (Foxtel – BBC First)

* Wentworth (Foxtel – Showcase)

Kristy Symonds: Doctor Doctor won me over from the first episode so I’m throwing my support behind this gem.

Amy Price: The Elisabeth Moss/ Nicole Kidman factor puts Top Of The Lake: China Girl first but Brisbane’s success story Harrow is the dark horse.

Astrid Taemets: There are some truly amazing shows in the running this year, but on account of my TV watching bingeing habits, I’m handing my vote over to Harrow.

Most Outstanding Sports Coverage

* 2017 AFL Grand Final (Channel 7)

* 2017 Australian Open Men’s Final (Channel 7)

* Bathurst 1000 (Network Ten)

* Jeff Horn v Manny Pacquiao (Foxtel – Main Event)

* The 2017/2018 Ashes (Nine Network)

Kristy Symonds: Surely this belongs to Foxtel for their Horn v Pacquiao efforts.

Amy Price: It wouldn’t be a Queensland Logies if Jeff Horn didn’t win an award.

Astrid Taemets: This one is hard, since I don’t watch a lot of sport on TV. I think this one will go to Foxtel.

Who will be the stand out on the red carpet?

Kristy Symonds: I’m keeping my eye on Channel 7’s Gold Coast golden girl Liz Cantor who has opted for little known Brisbane brand House of Ezis to dress her baby bump in a couture gown.

Amy Price: Expect a dramatic first Logies for nominee Sophia Forrest. She has enlisted master stylist Donny Galella, who has been talking up the edgy direction.

Astrid Taemets: Obviously Carrie Bickmore and her baby bump will be one to watch on the red carpet. She always looks beautiful and I can’t wait to see what she wears. Also Sam Frost will be on my radar. Her style has really evolved over the years and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying her fashion choices of late.

Who will have a wardrobe malfunction?

Kristy Symonds: I wouldn’t wish this on anyone but any outfit that involves magic tape is a contender.

Amy Price: It definitely won’t be Yvonne Sampson. She described her custom gown as something that would be worn by Dame Judi Dench.

Astrid Taemets: Look, it could happen to anyone, but I’m placing my bets on Davina from MAFS.

Who will get roasted in Dave Hughes’ opening monologue?

Kristy Symonds: Of course, Karl Stefanovic is going to cop some heat from our mate Dave Hughes.

Amy Price: There is plenty of fodder this year but Tracey Grimshaw’s Don Burke interview will be the most contentious roasting.

Astrid Taemets: Funny men Hamish Blake, Andy Lee, Peter Hellier and Luke McGregor are surely in the firing line. It takes two comedians to make a good roast.

Who will be the Hall of Famer?

Kristy Symonds: I think we could see 60 Minutes enter this prestigious group to mark the show’s 40th anniversary.

Amy Price: It has to be Ray Meagher. He’s been on TV for four decades, is a Gold Logie winner and he’s from Queensland.

Astrid Taemets: This is a toughie, but could it be Daryl Somers? I mean, the guy’s got 3 Gold Logies! Hey Hey It’s Saturday was my life growing up, so I’d be pretty chuffed if it was him.

Who will cut loose at the after parties?

Kristy Symonds: Most of the big stars claim they will be tucked up in bed when the show wraps so my money is on the local Queenslanders experiencing their first Logies to get wild.

Amy Price: The Gold Coast cast members of Geordie Shore have snagged an invite. Professional partiers on their home turf at their first Logies, what could go wrong?

Astrid Taemets: How great would it be to see someone like Shaun Micallef cut a rug on the dancefloor?! No, in all honesty, it’s going to be the reality TV stars who kick on the hardest.
