'Rigged!': Viewers slam Love Island's 'fake' voting system

FURIOUS Love Island viewers have slammed the show’s “fake” scheme for voting off couples, saying it’s “rigged” after popular couple Mac and Teddy left show.

Accusations have flooded social media since the show this week asked viewers to nominate their favourite couples, so that the bottom two ranked pairs could then be considered for elimination.

Viewers accused the show’s producers of faking the results “like the [Vladimir] Putin … and Trump elections”.

Before the vote, Love Island Australia’s own Instagram profile, as well as Facebook fan pages, listed hundreds of supportive comments for couple Mac and Teddy.

But then broadcaster 9GO! came out and said the couple had been bottom ranked with the less popular Millie and Mark.

All the while, fans on social media had been screaming for 9GO! to get rid of Eden and Erin, because the couple was unkind, competitive and prone to blow-ups.

Apparent favourites Mac and Teddy had been honest about the fact that they were just friends and not romantically involved after Millie had taken Mark away from Mac.

When Mac and Teddy exited the competition on Monday night to let Millie and Mark have a go, viewers cried foul, accusing the station of keeping Erin and Eden just for ratings boosting on air tension.

The couple also missed out on $50,000 in extra prize money for staying in the show.

When Love Island updated its cover photo minus Mac and Teddy, Facebook user Sarah Merchent simply posted in large type, “Rigged”.

Commenter Pavliva — cz posted on Teddy’s Facebook page, “the voting was so rigged! Everyone on social media was voting for you and very vocal for you guys to win!

“No f***ing way you and Mac ended up in bottom two. Reminds me of voting for US president … lol . all fake.”

Goldygirl1988gg wrote, “I’d be suing Love Island for rigging the votes mate! Honestly 95% of Instagram users voted for you.

“I saw hundreds of comments and they were all supporting you. You and Mac would have had the highest number of votes.

“You were the most loved couple. But they probably didn’t want their ‘love’ island show a laughing stock.

“And they knew putting u up against a couple would expose game players and tactics and make great TV.

“But yer 100% rigged, you two were robbed of $50,000.”

Among comments about how Mac and Teddy were “genuine and beautiful”, others demanded to see evidence of the results.

Tanya Vranic Miller wrote on the show’s Facebook page, “We would like to see our votes. I assume they don’t count at all.”

Melanie Mann wrote, “Can you show us the vote tally? It’s been very clear over social media that Mac and teddy were by far the most popular but now they’ve gone.”
Jen Cresp wrote “this show is f*n rigged”, while Megan-Jane Sieders posted, “That many people voted for Mac and Teddy … how the f*** did that happen!?”

On Instagram @cami.34 complained, “Like if you ACTUALLY went on the app and voted for Mac and Teddy. I honestly believe it was rigged.

“There’s no way they would be in the bottom two. So much support in the comments last night.

“The producers must have stopped voting, when they felt it was ordered in their favour.”

Viewers warned producers on the show’s Instagram page that if they “keep on Eden & Erin you’re faking it like Putin elections.

“The show will fail if you’re just keeping on that … duo for ratings,” posted @missjoseli.

A Nine network spokesman told news.com.au all voting for Love Islans Australia was conducted through the show’s official app and “is fair, unbiased, and not rigged by producers”.

“All voting events adhere to a stringent process of checks and verification to ensure the correct results are recorded and delivered,” the spokesman said.

“Just like any other democratic vote, there is a cross section of opinion and, while some viewers may not agree with certain decisions, we must abide by what the majority chooses.

“To this end, it is anyone’s guess who will win Love Island Australia 2018, but we encourage all viewers to have their say by voting for their favourite couple.”
