ONE controversial The Block contender isn’t making any friends with her behaviour on the show, demanding cash from fellow teams and accusing stunned foreman Dan Reilly of intimidatory tactics.
Contestant Sara’s bizarre confrontation in tonight’s episode of the home renovation program came after her husband Hayden had agreed to pay another team’s tradie fees for the day without telling her.
Hayden had agreed to pay a $700 “hold up” fee requested by fellow contestant Spence, who was unable to put on his tradies for several hours because of work being done on Sara and Hayden’s apartment.

Sara is furious when she finds out what he’s agreed to, but she has a simple solution: To march upstairs and tell another team, Bianca and Carla, that she’ll pass the full $700 bill on to them.
As Sara sees it, she and Hayden were late getting started as they were waiting for Bianca and Carla, so it’s actually the ladies who should fork out.
Bianca and Carla aren’t exactly thrilled by this third-hand bill being foisted on to them without warning or negotiation:
“We don’t think that’s right,” says Carla.
“Yeah, we do,” Sara shrugs. “I’m not arguing with you.”
“Well we’re not agreeing with you. So we need to work it out.”
Bianca and Carla hold firm — and it’s at this point The Block’s one-time contestant turned resident foreman, Dan Reilly, enters to find out what the conflict is about.
Dan reminds Sara that he’d told her earlier she should talk to Bianca and Carla to find some way they could repay her for the delay they caused. He’d suggested she should ask them to do her and Hayden’s “lagging”, or water pipe insulation.
It seems Sara has a very different memory of their discussion.
“Dan, you came to me, and you started yelling in my face. You did. Yeah, you did.”
“I didn’t. It takes a lot for me to yell,” he says, bemused by the accusation. “I said, ‘I think you should go upstairs and ask the girls to do your lagging’. Can we go the replay? I don’t think I was yelling.”
Sure enough, we see the replay — and a calm and measured Dan advising Sara about what he thinks she should do.
“If you think I was coming across yelling, I apologise … but I wasn’t yelling,” he tells her.
“OK fine, it wasn’t yelling,” Sara just about yells. “But it was in a very assertive tone, that made me feel intimidated. That’s NOT ON. Because I don’t know ANYTHING about building.”
After the bizarre stoush, Dan says that he’s barely even interacted with Sara so far this season and seems to have somehow offended her.
“I only just met Sara briefly this morning, I’ve only just briefly met her yesterday as well. She’s a very interesting character … Very much like my missus, she is. I’m a bit scared to come in this apartment!”
So after all that, who pays the $700? Nobody: Drawn to the commotion, Spence enters the apartment and tells them all to forget it, he’ll wear the cost rather than cause a conflict between teams so early in the game for such a small amount of money.
The Block airs on Nine 7:30pm Monday to Wednesday and 7pm Sundays.
