Malia Obama, the elder daughter of the former president, is supposed to be interested in a Hollywood career once she leaves Harvard, but now she's made a slight detour: She's appearing in a music video.
Eight years in the White House spotlight seems to have prepared Obama, 20, to look utterly natural in a new video produced by a Harvard-based indie-rock band called the New Dakotas.
Wearing a knit cap and an over-sized sweater, "playing" a harmonica and bopping around a lot, she rocks out to a tune called "Walking On Air."
It's not clear if Malia did this as a favor to friends or she just wanted to add video star to her budding resume.
A spokeswoman for the office of former first lady Michelle Obama declined to comment, as per Mrs. Obama's usual stance when it comes to her two daughters. (Sasha Obama, 17, is still in high school in Washington where the Obamas live since leaving office in January 2017.)
Malia has been entertainment-world oriented for some time, despite attempting to stay out of its spotlight since she left high school.
During her gap year after high school and before Harvard, where both her parents attended law school, she worked as an intern on HBO's "Girls," and at movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's film company (now closed, bankrupt and sold in the wake of sex-crime charges against him).
Malia also attended the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in January 2017 in Park City, Utah.
She's been spotted at concerts with her friends or with her parents: She attended the Beyoncé and Jay-Z "On the Run II" concert in Paris earlier this year with her mother and sister, and she was spotted at Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2017.
(Her parents busted out moves when they joined Bey and Jay at their concert in July in Landover, Maryland.)
Michelle Obama, meanwhile, is preparing for a highly-anticipated book tour kicking off in November to support her memoir, "Becoming." Last week she made headlines when she officiated the wedding of Chicago friends, Stephanie Rivkin and Joel Sircus, at the Theater on the Lake.
And the former presidential couple is planning some Hollywood moves of their own: In May, Netflix announced the Obamas signed a multiyear deal to potentially produce a diverse mix of content, including scripted series, unscripted series, docuseries, documentaries and features under the couple's Higher Ground Productions banner.
