Tom Gleeson rips into axed breakfast radio hosts on-air

TOM Gleeson sunk the boot into a trio of recently axed breakfast radio hosts in Adelaide.

It was announced last month that Hit107’s breakfast show, Amos, Cat and Angus will air its last show on September 21 after struggling in the ratings.

Proving they’ve got a good sense of humour, the radio hosts invited Tom Gleeson onto the show this week and offered themselves up as subjects for one of his hilarious Hard Chat segments that typically air during The Weekly with Charlie Pickering on the ABC.

Gleeson was as brutal as ever as he ruthlessly mocked the sacked radio hosts on their own show.

“Welcome to Hard Chat. I’m joined by axed radio show, Amos, Cat and Angus,” Gleeson said at the start of the segment on the Adelaide station.

Hit107 changed its name from SAFM. After the humiliation of being sacked, will you also have to change your names?” he asked.

In the latest round of radio ratings released last month, the Hit107 breakfast show was well behind all of their main FM rivals including Mix102.3, Triple M and Nova, a fact Gleeson was clearly aware of.

“What’s it like to run a station into the ground?” he asked the hosts.

“It was in the ground, we took it up but it’s back in the ground,” Amos Gill replied.

Gleeson added, “You dug up the corpse and then you buried it again. Well done!”

The jokes kept coming as the ABC TV star asked, “Why did your unique blend of a blokey comedian, a jock and any old chick not work?”

Cat Lynch jokingly took the blame and said, “Maybe that’s why it didn’t work, because I’m not any old chick”.

“None of your love lives have worked out,” Gleeson continued. “How does it feel to be unloved on-air and off-air?”

Gleeson also singled out Gill, one of Australia’s most promising young comedians who announced recently that he’s moving to the US next year to continue his stand-up career.

“Amos, you are currently a medium-sized fish in a tiny pond,” Gleeson said. “What’s it going to be like when you get to LA and no one gives a s**t?”

Gill replied, “At least I’ll have an excuse ... it’s a big market,’” he joked.

And finally, Gleeson said ahead of the trio’s last ever radio show tomorrow morning, “You were beaten in your last radio survey by Cruise 1323 Classic Hits, an audience which consists only of two old ladies ... Why even have a last show when nobody is listening?”

Savage.

Angus O’Loughlin will remain with the Hit Network next year and will relocate to Melbourne while Cat Lynch has announced she’s off to travel around South America.

The breakfast team are being replaced in 2019 by Network Ten newsreader Rebecca Morse and local media identity and former Biggest Loser contestant, Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello. Their first show will go to air on January 21, 2019.
