Cassandra Thorburn suffers new heartbreak with death of her dad

CASSANDRA Thorburn has posted an emotional tribute to her late father Max after he died on Thursday following a battle with cancer.

Taking to Instagram, Thorburn wrote a touching post dedicated to her father, who died at the age of 72.

“A journalism career spanning over 50 years in TV, newspapers and radio,” she wrote. “A role model to many, and my biggest supporter. Thank you for being the beloved poppy to my children and my Dad.”

Thorburn also posted a poignant photo of his hand holding hers.

The former journalist and mum-of-three also took to Facebook to thank her family and friends for their support.

“Thank you for all the messages and calls of love and support,” she wrote. “A man who made a difference passed today. A man who was also just Dad and Poppy and was so deeply loved. My Achilles heel will always be with me.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail about her loss, Thorburn said: “My dad’s passing is a loss to so many. I was just blessed to be his daughter and my children had the most incredibly devoted poppy.

“What more can be said? He fought hard for yhree years and the last six months have been excruciating. We are devastated,” she continued.

“My dad taught me to accept life is full of imperfect people, including ourselves and to approach each day as an opportunity to do better. If you hurt someone be man enough to admit it and make amends. True gifts.”
It’s been a difficult period for Thorburn who had an acrimonious split from Today host Karl Stefanovic in 2016.

Three months after splitting from Thorburn, Stefanovic went public with his relationship with shoe designer, Jasmine Yarbrough.

The two are now engaged.

Appearing recently on Studio 10, Thorburn said she hasn’t let the breakup get to her.

“I just don’t think it’s relevant to me. The world is full of judgments, but they don’t really know what’s going on,” she said.

‘The only priority I have is making sure my children are happy and in a good place. I don’t owe anyone anything.”
