It’s been almost 18 years since we first fell in love with a goofy and incredibly unlikely princess with an overgrown mane, a bit of a monobrow and a tendency to don tacky glitter nail polish. Ghastly … and loveable.

Mia Thermopolis graced our screens and morphed into a beautiful royal before our eyes all the way back in 2001.

We were then treated to an equally charming sequel in 2004 which saw Mia become Queen and her grandmother Clarisse marry her loveable driver, Joe.

Doors were left open and we’ve hoped and waited for a third film ever since.

Despite us all feeling old and nostalgic over Mia’s awesome firehouse with a built-in sliding pole and a cool cat named Fat Louis, we have some good news to announce.

Anne Hathaway has dropped sturdy hints that a third instalment of the much loved Princess Diaries franchise could be in the works.

While talking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, a caller buzzed in to ask Hathaway if there was any possibility of a third film.

To everyone’s surprise, her answer was certainly promising!

“There is a script for the third movie,” she said.

“I want to do it, Julie wants to do it.”

Julie of course being the ever elegant and practically perfect in every way — Julie Andrews.

“We all really want it to happen,” she continued.

In true Anne Hathaway style, she flashed her pearly whites, and smiled from ear to ear as she discussed the possibility of a third film.

Clearly, she can’t wait to head back to the throne and give us what we’ve all been waiting for, for almost two decades!

“We don’t want to deliver it until it’s ready, but we’re working on it,” she said.

And in the mean time we are all working on our best royal waves and curtsies, Anne.

“We love it just as much as you guys love it,” Hathaway shared.

Which could explain why we’ve had to wait so painstakingly long.

If a third film comes to fruition, it’ll be damn good — we hope.
