Netflix Are Streaming 'The Notebook' With Its Alternate Ending & Fans Are Pissed - Pedestrian TV

Okay, controversial opinion – I’ve never actually been that much of a fan of the “we’re old and still in love” sub-plot to The Notebook. Give me Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams falling in love and jumping into rivers over James Garner and Gina Rowlands reading stories to each other. I know, I’m a demon.

So the news that Netflix have changed the ending to The Notebook didn’t exactly upset me. I always hated the end! Which (spoiler, but fucking hell if you haven’t seen The Notebook by 2019 you’re either five years old or you don’t ~do~ electronics) finishes with Old Allie and Old Noah dying side by side in Allie’s hospital bed. Sorry, but it’s unrealistic and also majorly depressing.

The alternate ending Netflix is reportedly pedalling, according to The Sun, sees Allie and Noah holding hands, before cutting to the credits. Sure, it’s less impactful but also involves at least a full minute LESS of the oldies, so I’m here for it. Most fans? Not so much.

BUT – if you’re Aussie and reading this you can rest easy. Stan has the rights to The Notebook in Oz and I just checked (excellent times watching The Notebook at work) – they’re streaming the legit ending, so there you bloody go, you crazy fans.

If you’re English, maybe try moving to Australia? IDK.
