Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon was a no-show during yesterday’s Academy Awards in Los Angeles, and with good reason: He was discount shopping in regional NSW.
The Good Will Hunting star was spotted by a fan browsing the aisles at Kmart in the northern NSW town of Ballina, a stone’s throw south of Byron Bay, where he spends time with his family alongside movie star mate Chris Hemsworth.
9 Honey reports that the boy in the picture is a young fan named Daniel, who said: “I spotted him at the checkout with his wife and kids, he had a football and some other kid’s toys.”
It’s not even the first time Damon has been spotted in the store — here he is last year at Kmart Ballina with another young fan:
Damon, 48, is frequently snapped with wife Luciana and their three children on beaches around Byron Bay, often with good friend Chris Hemsworth and family in tow.
Real estate experts say that highly visible celebs like the Hemsworths, Damon and other celebs who have either bought in or love holidaying in Byron Bay have helped to drive up property prices in the area.
“There’s always been a lot of celebrities who have loved living up in that area but they (Hemsworths) are very high profile and they are giving the area a very high profile as well,” realestate.com.au chief economist Nerida Conisbee told News.com.au.
“That flows through to his brothers and all the rest.”
