Phoebe Waller-Bridge signs deal with Amazon - NEWS.com.au

After heading home with three Emmy Awards in hand on Sunday, revered TV writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has just signed a major contract with Amazon.

The Fleabag and Killing Eve creator said she was “insanely delighted” with the exclusive deal, said to be worth nearly $30 million a year, according to Variety.

The mega deal will see the 34-year-old create and produce new programs for streaming service Amazon Prime, which she worked with when creating Fleabag in conjunction with the BBC.

“I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon. Working with the team on Fleabag was the creative partnership dreams are made of,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement.

“It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!”

The TV hit maker is in high demand this year, having been asked to join the James Bond writing team in an effort to liven up the script. She was specifically requested by Daniel Craig — reportedly a huge Fleabag fan.

On Sunday, Fleabag was an Emmys goldmine, with Waller-Bridge scoring best lead actress in a comedy series and best writing for a comedy series. Fleabag was also named best comedy series.

But it wasn’t the only show she was involved in that won big on the night.

The thriller series once executive produced by Waller-Bridge, Killing Eve, was also triumphant, with actress Jodie Comer landing best lead actress in a drama series. Waller-Bridge worked on the program’s first season.

The next show we can expect from Waller-Bridge is Run, a comedic romantic thriller series for HBO starring Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever.

The series, which Waller-Bridge executive produces, is currently filming for a 2020 premiere.
