With the ARIA Awards done for another year, the obvious story seems to be the sudden rise of ex-busker Tones and I.
And that story is valid: the 26-year-old, who has gone from budding musician to international superstar in the space of a few months, picked up four awards, the most of any musician on the night.
But what's an awards show without some noteworthy speeches, awkward interactions and lots of swearing?
Here are some of the biggest moments from the ARIAs, which were held at the Star Centre in Sydney.
When Tones and I capped off a huge year
She's the talk of Australian music at the moment.
If you haven't heard Dance Monkey on the radio, in a supermarket, in an Uber … what even is your life?
Toni Watson's second single as Tones and I, released in May, has gone to number one in 35 countries, including Australia, where it broke a record for the longest stint in that spot.
The song has been streamed more than half a billion times, which is not bad for a musician who was still busking on the street in Byron Bay earlier this year.
Tones took out Best Female Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Pop Release (for Dance Monkey) and Best Independent Release. That's four of the six she was nominated for. (In addition to all those, Konstantin Kersting was nominated for Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year for his work on Dance Monkey.)
Accepting the Best Female Artist award, Tones seemed nervous, reading from a prepared script. But she took the opportunity to reinforce the importance of individual expression.
"I'm not into make-up or dresses or typically girly things," she said.
"But to me, those things don't really define what it is to be a female artist in this industry anymore. It's being brave and courageous and true to yourself."
When Hilltop Hoods picked up an award and pushed a meme
One of Australia's premier hip hop groups, Hilltop Hoods, came into the night with seven nominations. They had returned home from an international tour for the ARIAs.
They ended up taking home Best Australian Live Act, and Suffa gave a very normal acceptance speech that definitely didn't reference a deep-state conspiracy theory-turned-Reddit obsession.
"Thanks to our wives, our children, and Jeffrey Epstein did not kill himself."
When the wrong name got read out as the winner
This one didn't make it to the television broadcast, for obvious reasons.
Triple j's Veronica Milsom and Lewis Hobba were presenting Best Independent Release and were excited to award it to Australian songwriting legend Paul Kelly.
This was unfortunate because Kelly was not actually nominated for the award.
"The winner is Moonlight, it's Moonlight, everyone," Hobba then joked, in reference to one of the most memorable awards show gaffes.
Someone came from backstage and gave the pair the proper envelope, which revealed the proper winner: Tones and I.
Whatever happened with Peking Duk, Amyl & The Sniffers and Agro the puppet
Sometimes, the ARIAs gives us an unlikely combinations of presenters.
And so electronic duo Peking Duk found themselves presenting the award for Best Rock Album alongside a television puppet.
Remember Agro? From Agro's Cartoon Connection?
The boys from Peking Duk were not keen on the whole arrangement, seemingly because they felt Agro's brand of innuendo-heavy humour is a little off colour in 2019.
"I can't believe Agro is still up here," Reuben Styles said to the audience. "That's pretty f***ed."
The award went to Mullumbimby punk band Amyl & The Sniffers.
Singer Amy Taylor thanked a luxury clothing brand for dressing their "K-Mart asses" for the event, then said "f*** you Agro, I love you so much".
When Human Nature made us remember the 90s
Human Nature were everywhere in the 90s.
They were Australia's answer to the boy band craze sweeping the world, a movement that embraced handsome, square-jawed men singing, moving and dressing in unison.
This year, they were inducted in the ARIAs Hall of Fame, on account of their enduring success and the strength of songs like Every Time You Cry and Telling Everybody.
It's 30 years since they started singing together, and they've spent the past 10 years performing in Las Vegas.
"For the first 10 years, 1996 to 2006, I don't know if I owned a shirt that had sleeves," Toby Allen said.
"Oh, I also dyed my hair peroxide blond to sing the national anthem at the Sydney Olympics, and, yep, [I'm] still proudly wearing my eyebrow ring from 1997.
"But, hey, this boy band thing has worked out pretty well."
When Guy Sebastian promoted mental health awareness
The singer, who was also the show's host, won two awards on the night, the biggest of which was Song of the Year for his single Choir.
In an earlier moment in the show, Sebastian had mentioned his friend Luke Liang, a respected Sydney musician who had performed with him and many others and who died last year aged 28.
Accepting the award, Sebastian said he needed to return to the subject because Choir was about Luke.
"I cry probably 80 per cent of the times that I sing this song," he said.
"There is a special message that affects us personally a lot … It affects a lot of people in this room.
"We get up at industry awards and we're dressed to the nines and there's just people who are hurting in this world."
