Prince Philip leaves hospital in London after several days in care - ABC Local

Prince Philip, the 98-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has left a London hospital on Tuesday (local time) where he had been receiving treatment since Friday.

Key points:

  • Prince Philip was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure
  • He has been in King Edward VII Hospital since Friday
  • The Royal family is spending Christmas at Sandringham

A Reuters photographer said the Duke of Edinburgh walked out of the King Edward VII Hospital, and got into a car before being driven away.

Prince Philip had been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for treatment for a pre-existing condition, Buckingham Palace said on Friday.

The Royal family is spending Christmas at Sandringham, the monarch's country estate in Norfolk, as is customary for senior royals.

However, Prince Harry has travelled with his wife Meghan and young son Archie to Canada rather than spend holidays at Sandringham.

Last year, Prince Philip did not attend the Christmas church service in the Norfolk town with other royals.

At the time, royal sources said he was in good health but wanted to spend the day in private.

Earlier, Prince Charles said his father was doing "all right" while on a visit to South Yorkshire to meet members of the emergency services and victims of a flooding event in November.
