Jennifer Lawrence Channeled A Nineties Era Elizabeth Hurley In That Safety-Pin Dress

Considering that it is only Tuesday, Jennifer Lawrence is having quite a week in fashion as she promotes her new movie, Red Sparrow—and her latest look might just be our favourite.

After opting for elegance and minimalism in Dior at the Baftas on Sunday night and a glittering princess gown for the premiere yesterday, she today attended the movie's photo call in London wearing a black Versace dress that echoed the now iconic frock Elizabeth Hurley wore in 1994.

The dress, which is from Versace's pre-autumn/winter 2018 collection, is a low-cut, form-fitting velvet design with gold buttons and crossover straps at the back. Looking sensational, Lawrence paired the look with simple black heels, a gold bangle and smoky eye make-up. She added circular sunnies and a black coat as she made her way to the event.

Although the dress is not an exact replica of Hurley's famous frock, there are a number of key similarities, including the gold accents, the leg slit and the figure-hugging, low-cut bodice at the top of the dress.

Hurley wore the frock almost 24 years ago to the premiere of her then-boyfriend Hugh Grant's new movie, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Speaking about the dress at the time, she said: "Unlike many other designers, Versace designs clothes that celebrate the female form rather than eliminate it."

The dress has gone down in history as one of the most famous of all time—and has been reimagined on plenty of occasions, including by Lady Gaga when she met Donatella Versace in Milan in 2012.
