Looks like this 'Game of Thrones' character is gone for good

GAME of Thrones is meticulous about revisiting characters and plot lines from previous seasons — but one character might be abandoned forever.

Tobias Menzies, who plays Edmure Tully, recently told Digital Spy that he’s unsure whether he’ll be in Season 8.

“The honest answer is, I have no idea. He’s obviously somewhere in a prison, he’s still around alive somewhere. They’re pretty stingy with their information and I’ve not heard anything from them.”

Season 8, which will air in 2019, is just six episodes long — and it’s already filming, so notifying Menzies now would be awfully last-minute. And between his stints in AMC’s The Terror and Starz’s Outlander, his schedule is already packed.

Edmure is a minor character, sure, but he’s significant to the plot. As Catelyn Stark’s brother, he was the groom in — and one of the only survivors of — Season 3’s infamous Red Wedding. He’s been imprisoned by the Freys ever since. In Season 6, he had a wrenching talk about morality with Jaime Lannister during the siege at Riverrun.

Previously, Game of Thrones has done its best to tie up loose ends. Season 7 brought back Gendry (Joe Dempsie) after a four-season absence, and Arya’s direwolf Nymeria, who’s been missing since Season 1. The show even brought back Arya’s former travel buddy Hot Pie (Ben Hawkey) for a brief scene, just to show the audience that he’s still alive and baking.

Abandoning Catelyn Stark’s brother would be a big oversight, especially since the Red Wedding has continued to impact the plot. Season 7 opened with Arya’s gory Red Wedding revenge (in the form of killing all the Freys) — a whopping four seasons after the bloody event.

Was Edmure still imprisoned when Arya killed the Freys in Season 7? Did she, perhaps, unknowingly kill her uncle in the bloodbath?

We might never know.
