Prince Harry, Meghan Markle to honour Anzacs at dawn service

PRINCE Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle will attend an Anzac Day dawn service in London next week.

Kensington Palace has announced that the couple will be attending the dawn service at Wellington Arch and the service of commemoration and thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.

Prince Harry will also attend the wreath laying ceremony and parade at the Cenotaph — a famous war memorial in London — where he will lay a wreath on behalf of the Queen.

About 400 people including veterans and their family members will also participate in a parade.

It comes as Ms Markle has been participating in a number of royal duties in the past month as she prepares to become an official member of the family.

Prince Harry and Ms Markle are also meeting with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull this week as part of a reception to mark the upcoming Invictus Games in Sydney.

A foundation started by Harry, the Invictus Games are a sports competition for veterans and injured Armed Forces personnel.

Anzac Day has been commemorated in London since the first anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli in 1916, when King George V attended a service at Westminster Abbey and more than 2000 Australian and New Zealand troops marched through the streets.

Prince Harry spent 10 years serving in the British Armed Forces and maintains a close relationship with veteran support charities.

He also led London’s ANZAC Day 100th Anniversary commemorations in 2016.

It was revealed earlier this month that Harry’s father Prince Charles will attend Anzac Day services in France on behalf of the Queen.

The service will take place at the Australian National Memorial, near Villers-Bretonneux in France on Anzac Day and will also be attended by Mr Turnbull.
