DANIEL Johns is back with a new sound and image far removed from his rocker days with his former band, Silverchair.
Johns’ latest music video dropped today for a new disco-inspired song titled No One Defeats Us, a collaboration with Empire of the Sun’s Luke Steele.
The electronica duo have named themselves ‘Dreams’ and are scheduled to perform at music festival Coachella in California this month.
Johns and Steele will perform two concerts at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Vivid Festival in late May.
Troubled soul: The story behind THAT Daniel Johns bender
In the video, Johns wears a white fur “pimp coat” as well as skinny jeans and punk-style make-up. A baby blue contact lens completes his kooky — and somewhat frightening — look.
‘WHIRLWIND’: Daniel Johns on life of fame at 15
It’s a world away from the Kurt Cobain-inspired look once sported by the ex-Silverchair frontman.
The former guitar god began to dabble in electronic music after Silverchair busted up, saying at the time he had to “figure out a new way to write songs as a solo artist”.
His transformation from pub rocker to electronic star now appears to be complete.
It’s a been a tumultuous few years for the ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter, who had fame thrust upon at the tender age of 15 when Silverchair shot to fame.
In May 2015, Johns was photographed asleep on the footpath in front of a terrace house on Riley St, Surry Hills.
The same month, he was taken to hospital on a stretcher after hitting his head on concrete out the front of Surry Hills haunt Low 302.
In February that year, Johns was convicted of mid-range drink-driving in Newcastle, which saw him disqualified from driving for four months.
