Camilla and Marc to open Fashion Week

Victoria's Secret model Georgia Fowler will lead the style set as they convene upon Sydney for Australian Fashion Week.

Fowler will walk in Sunday's opening show by Sydney label Camilla and Marc, a favourite of Meghan Markle who was recently wore a blazer by the brand during a royal engagement.

New Zealand model Fowler will be joined on the catwalk by Newcastle model and Vogue Australia cover girl Charlee Fraser, while celebrities including Chris Hemsworth's wife Elsa Pataky and actress Isabel Lucas will watch on from the front row.

Australian Fashion Week has been running since 1996 and its opening show has become famously high-concept and generally staged away from the hub in Carriageworks in inner Sydney.

Last year, Dion Lee opened with a dramatic outdoor showcase in front of the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

On Sunday afternoon, Sydney-based brother and sister Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman will stage a fully immersive show, described as an Australian "Zen garden", which involves 60 tonnes of sand to create a 120m runway, bare rock and wind-stripped blossoms to create an arid Australian landscape.

A host of other Australian designers will showcase their resort, or trans-seasonal wear, during the week in Sydney including Alice McCall, Bianca Spender, Macgraw, and Romance Was Born.

London-based designer Emilia Wickstead, another favourite of Markle's, will show in Australian Fashion Week for the first time to debut her high summer holiday collection.

Kaftan queen Camilla will close the show on Thursday evening, although the designer behind the successful Australian brand, Camilla Franks, may not be in attendance after revealing her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

* Australian Fashion Week is on May 13-17.
