HE’S famous for tearing his guests to shreds and that’s exactly what Tom Gleeson did when he interviewed Em Rusciano.
In Gleeson’s latest Hard Chat segment which airs during ABC show The Weekly, he mercilessly mocked Rusciano over her struggling 2DAY FM breakfast show.
Rusciano started hosting the radio show in January last year with Harley Breen who left the show at the end of 2017.
She now co-hosts the show alongside Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer but they’re still struggling in the ratings with a 4.4 per cent audience share compared to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa [6.9 per cent], WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda [8.1 per cent] and KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O [12.3 per cent].
“You’re currently on breakfast radio with Grant Denyer and Ed Kavalee,” Gleeson said to Rusciano in Hard Chat. “There’s three of you in the studio. Is that more than the number of listeners you have?”
“Yes, by one,” Rusciano joked. “I know that we’re rating lower than in-house hospital radio and the station that reports the fishing channels.”
Gleeson continued: “Your radio show doesn’t rate but on social media you have hundreds of thousands of followers. Does that mean that even your fans can’t bear to tune in?”
Rusciano was a good sport and laughed along as Gleeson hurled another zinger her way.
“Maybe the problem is that you’re on air with Grant Denyer and Ed Kavalee. It’s like a dinner party that no one would organise,” he said.
“You’re right,” Rusciano replied. “But I would say I’m probably the problem because we didn’t rate last year when they weren’t there either.”
Gleeson had clearly done his research for the interview and brought up a comment that game show host Darren McMullen made about Rusciano in an interview with news.com.au in 2016.
“A TV host described you as a ‘hilarious nightmare’,” Gleeson said to Rusciano. “Is that unfair, describing you as hilarious?”
“No, I have moments,” Rusciano replied.
And finally, Gleeson brought up Rusciano’s recent stage show, The Evil Queen, which she successfully toured around Australia.
“You have an inflatable penis on stage during your act,” he said to her. “Isn’t one dick on stage enough?”
“You can never have too many dicks,” Rusciano told him.
Rusciano is the latest celebrity to be torn to shreds by Gleeson in Hard Chat with past guests including Sophie Monk, The Veronicas and Steve Price.
