Roseanne says she 'begged' ABC to save jobs on her show

Roseanne Barr on Thursday said that she begged ABC executives not to pull the plug on her show following her racist remarks on Twitter earlier this week, claiming she sought to save the jobs of those wording on "Roseanne."

"I begged Ben Sherwood at ABC 2 let me apologize & make amends," the television star said, referring to Ben Sherwood, the president of the Disney-ABC Television Group.

"I begged them not to cancel the show. I told them I was willing to do anything & asked 4 help in making things right. I'd worked doing publicity 4 them 4 free for weeks, traveling, thru bronchitis. I begged 4 ppls jobs," Barr wrote in a since deleted tweet, CNN reported.

"He said: what were you thinking when you did this? I said: I thought she was white, she looks like my family! He scoffed & said: "what u have done is egregious, and unforgivable.' I begged 4 my crews jobs,” the actress continued, saying in another tweet that has since been deleted: “Will I ever recover from this pain? Omg.”

The move to cancel Barr’s rebooted sitcom — which premiered with record-high ratings in March — came just hours after the actress sparked a firestorm on Tuesday morning with what she later called a “bad joke” about Obama-era White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

The 65-year-old comedian and outspoken Trump supporter tweeted that Jarrett was the child of the Islamist organization Muslim Brotherhood and the film “Planet of the Apes."

“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” Barr wrote, using Jarrett’s initials. The actress’ message was in response to a tweet accusing Jarrett of covering up misdeeds for the Obama administration.

The entertainer later apologized, adding that she was “leaving Twitter” following the harsh criticism she received for the remark.

But ABC quickly moved to cancel the show.

“Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Barr was also dropped by her talent agency, ICM Partners, shortly after ABC canceled her show.

“We are all greatly distressed by the disgraceful and unacceptable tweet from Roseanne Barr this morning,” ICM said in a statement Tuesday, according to Variety
