AFTER holidaying in Hawaii recently, Carrie Bickmore decided to try and find a couple she had met and wanted to be friends with.
The problem was Bickmore only knew the woman as “Jess” and that her partner’s name was Mike.
Luckily, being a celebrity with her own radio program — Carrie & Tommy on The Hit Network — it didn’t take long for her to track them down.
Embarrassingly, Jess was not quite as enthusiastic to be stalked by one of Australia’s most loved personalities as some would think.
When asked by Bickmore’s radio co-host Tommy Little if she wanted to be Carrie’s friend, she answered: “I don’t know, they were very nice but I don’t know.
“We’re pretty busy (and) we’ve got friends that we probably don’t see as much as we’d like.”
Ouch.
Bickmore took the rejection well, and said she felt sad for a couple of hours. But then she started to wonder whether she had been set up by Little.
Turns out her intuition was spot on and Jess went back on the show to confirm that yes, “I would love to be your friend”.
Bickmore said she hesitated to exchange details when they met because it felt “weird as an adult saying ‘can we be friends?’.”
But then decided life was too short not to try and make a new friend.
“I think the older you get the harder (it is) to meet people,” she said.
And really — who wouldn’t want to be Carrie’s friend?
