Adriano Zumbo's company reportedly placed in voluntary administration

DESSERT king Adriano Zumbo appears to have gone to ground amid shock claims his company has gone into voluntary administration.

On Wednesday afternoon, the company’s phone went unanswered and its website also appears to be down.

The last social media posts by the company and Zumbo himself have made no mention of the reported predicament, which was reported by Fairfax media today.

According to Good Food, administrators appointed to companies directed by Mr Zumbo held a creditors’ meeting in Sydney this morning.

Those present at the meeting, including various landlords and trade creditors, heard debts could be as high as $10 million, although that figure could be offset by $8 million in assets such as equipment and properties owned by the business.

However, administrators confirmed the eight Zumbo Patisserie shops across Sydney and Melbourne will continue to operate as normal.

It’s not yet known what has caused the company’s current woes, and Mr Zumbo is yet to comment publicly on the claims.

The latest troubles follow a 2017 A Current Affair report which reported the company belonging to the former MasterChef star allegedly failed to pay some employees superannuation, claimed to have paid money into accounts that didn’t exist, fabricated policy numbers and failed to pay overtime to workers.

Last month, the 37-year-old sold his former Balmain home for $1.7 million with the sale coming three weeks after auction.

Mr Zumbo paid $675,000 for the period home back in 2003 at the age of 21.

The renowned chef, who sports a Willy Wonka tattoo on his right bicep, has appeared on a range of TV shows and documentaries has published a number of books.

Over the years he has earned a variety of colourful nicknames including the “sweet assassin”, “Patissier of Pain”, “the Dark Lord of the Pastry Kitchen” and “Lord Voldecake”.

More to come.
