AS CONTROVERSIAL contestants Sara and Hayden continue to flip-flop about whether or not they’ll walk off The Block, host Scott Cam presented a novel solution in tonight’s episode with help from two fellow Nine celebs.
Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner were shown fronting up to St Kilda’s Gatwick Hotel, hard hats and hi-vis donned, ready to step in should Sara and Hayden actually follow through on their many threats to leave the show after a slew of poor critiques from the judges.
“If Hayden and Sara decide to leave — as they’ve said — Karl and Georgie are taking over,” Cam told the other contestants as he led the new recruits on a tour of the building.
Gold Coast couple Norm and Jess couldn’t contain their excitement.
“That would be amazing!” said Jess.
“I reckon Karl wouldn’t like to get his hands dirty, so I’d actually prefer them down there — I reckon it’d be less competition than Hayden and Sara. Bring ’em in!”
From there, Karl and Georgie swept through Hayden and Sara’s apartment, announcing their own grand plans for renovating the property — all while a bemused Hayden watched.
Cam interrupted, reminding the brekkie TV duo they haven’t actually got the job yet — they’ll just be filling in if Hayden an Sara do decide to walk off.
“I’ve been the fill-in for many years, Scotty — I’ve got the gig now,” quipped Georgie, who landed the Today co-host role after Lisa Wilkinson defected to rival network Ten last year.
“We. Don’t. Do. Standby,” said Karl, in mock-huffy tones that would do Sara proud.
With that, the pair stormed off, leaving Cam to plead with Hayden to stay.
“I was always staying … it was Sara that was upset,” Hayden protested. Does that mean this is finally the last we’ll hear of the pair threatening to bail on The Block?
The Block airs Mondays-Wednesdays 7.30pm and Sundays 7pm on Nine.
