IT WAS one of Australian TV’s most ambitious undertakings, but just what happens after Channel 10’s Pilot Week remains unclear.
Eight potential new shows now hang in the balance, with Ten’s top bosses left with the final say on which pilots will be renewed for a full season.
While Sam Dastyari’s Digrace!and Kyle Sandilands’ Judge Judy-style offering Trial By Kyle generated plenty of buzz before and after broadcast, less publicised shows such as Taboo also resonated with viewers.
Based on capital city ratings, Kinne Tonight came out on top with 404,000 viewers tuning in, while Rove McManus’ Saturday Night had an audience of just 203,000 (but arguably the toughest timeslot given he was up against a Saturday evening of sport).
Here’s how the rest of the shows fared in the five capital cities:
-Disgrace!: 229,000
-Skit Happens: 350,000
-Drunk History Australia: 367,000
-Taboo: 277,000
-Dave: 246,000
-Trial By Kyle: 385,000

While viewers can still vote online for the show they liked best, Network Ten’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey told news.com.au the final decision would be based on multiple factors.
“We’ve enjoyed bringing new programming ideas to audiences and are thrilled with the overall response through live audience numbers and via social,” she said.
“We’re listening to what people are saying, and are also looking at a range of other measures including timeslot and demographic performance to help us decide which programs we’ll be commissioning to a full series.”
How many viewers watched on the network’s streaming service Tenplay would also be a factor.
“BVOD (broadcast video on demand) numbers will also play an important role so we’ll be gathering these over the next week. Stay tuned,” she said.
