The Block 2018: Episode 21 and Hans and Courtney get a win

LENGTHY phone conversations about wallpaper a couple of weeks ago had Sara under fire for cheating.

Now that she is finally revealing a room with wallpaper in it we’re on the edge of our seats as to whether the judges will like it.

But while it was ‘the wallpaper lady’ who grabbed fan attention then — when she created her own Twitter account to narrate the shows from — it is now a fireplace consultant who is in the running for best cameo to date, after having Australia in stitches when she asked how uptight the foreman is?

Before we get to see what the judges think of the rooms we have to sit through the usual drams though.

There’s drama about Kerrie and spence’s ceiling, drama about Jess and Norm’s Gumtree fireplace, and a heap more drama when Sara and Hayden threaten each other with divorce.

“It looks stupid,” Sara tells Hayden, who wittily replies “you look stupid.”

At home we ALL feel stupid for watching these two act so stupidly.

“They’re laughing at you cos you’re an idiot,” Hayden follows up with Sara later on.

“I will buy it (the apartment) with my new husband,” Sara threatens.

Finally it is tools down, and Neale, Shaynna and Darren arrive to give their verdicts.

KERRIE AND SPENCE

Point of Difference: Coffered ceiling

Confidence level: ‘It’s one of my favourite rooms that we’ve done so far’

What the judges said: Neale went from hater to lover in the space of three minutes, initially describing the ceiling as too low, before backtracking and saying he liked it. He later described the room as “an easy space to imagine living in”. He thought the fundamentals were great, and Shaynna agreed that it “ticks a lot of boxes.” Shaynna described the ceiling as cluttered and Darren says the orientation of the room towards conversation is amazing.

Final score: 25

Place: Equal third

COURTNEY AND HANS

Point of Difference: ‘St Kilda’s biggest room’

Confidence level: Happy to have finished for reveals

What the judges said: Neale describes the room as having a ‘”sense of grandeur” and thinks it has “personality”. The judges said the Christian Cole dining room table was the hero and the James Bond bar impressed them all. The judges described the pair as having gone from “zero to hero” this week.

Final score: First

Place: 27.5

HAYDEN AND SARA

Point of Difference: Wallpaper scene of Luna Park

Confidence level: Always.

What the judges said: Shaynna says there is “a lot to love”. And everyone loves the colour palette. Darren describes the fireplace as a “compromise”. Neale and Darren liked the lounge and chairs. Neale said, rather cryptically, that the fireplace was a metaphor for the whole room — it didn't feel real. Darren hated on the “flawed” orientation of dining table and the planning of the room, and they all agreed the Luna Park wallpaper isn’t high end or glamorous.

Final score: 23

Place: Last, again

NORM AND JESS

Point of Difference: Unique furniture and hanging fireplace

Confidence level: ‘We haven’t won one yet’

What the judges said: Darren walked in and said “that’s hot” and went on to say “I’m exploding all over the place”. Shaynna looked like she was going to be sick, but possible that was a reaction to Darren’s comments. She said the fireplace had “the worst placement I’ve ever seen”. But Darren was gushing: “It’s grabbed me by the heart”. Shaynna did love the bespoke coffee table and explanation of rich history it has behind it, but that was it. Neale loved the simplicity of the room and blue chairs.

Final score: 25

Place: Equal third

CARLA AND BIANCA

Point of Difference: Finished early

Confidence level: If you ask Keith, he’ll tell you they are “smug” and “arrogant”

What the judges said: Neale’s assessment was simple: “It feels good” and said the ladies had managed a real sense of “easy luxury”. he also thought it was a bit “undercooked” in the lounge area, and Darren contributed that they’d “nailed the orientation”

The judges ALL loved the choice of pendant above the dining table. Shaynna

said the scale of the light, table, cabinet and artwork was great and the “complete package.” Darren said he thought the black sheer curtains were the perfect choice and Neale chimed in that Bianca and Carla are great at creating a sense of drama.

Final score: 27

Place: Second
