EgyptAir defends 'bizarre' Drew Barrymore article about her 'unsuccessful marriages'

EgyptAir has said it is standing by a "far from fake interview" with Drew Barrymore which has gone viral on social media.

Beginning with an introduction of the Hollywood star detailing her "several unsuccessful marriages" and subconscious need "for attention from a male figure", the bizarre article is littered with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, somewhat insulting comments and dubious-sounding quotes.

It goes on to discuss Barrymore's weight, with the interviewer asking for "her secret" - commenting that she has "returned to her previous graceful body" after gaining weight following pregnancy.

Photos of the "surreal" in-flight magazine interview posted by Yemen analyst Adam Baron on Twitter earlier this week have amassed thousands of retweets and likes, with many people speculating about the authenticity of the interview.

Now, it appears writer Aida Takla has responded to the criticism in a series of tweets, although from an unverified account with a different spelling of her name.

The tweets say the article may have been edited but that "this doesn't negate the fact that the interview with Drew Barrimoor [sic] which took place in New York is genuine &far from fake".

They also say she interviewed "charming and talented" Barrymore "several times".

EgyptAir retweeted the post, thanking Ms Takla for "the clarification".

The airline has also responded to a few people discussing the article on Twitter, saying: "This a professional magazine interview conducted by Dr. Aida Tekla [sic] Former president of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and one of the voting members of the Golden Globes."

The article says Barrymore had failed relationships because she "lacked the male role model in her life after her parents' divorce" when she was a child.

It also says she is taking an "unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother" to her two daughters.

After seeing his tweet picked up internationally, Baron is getting used to his newfound internet fame.

Barrymore is yet to issue an official statement and her representatives could not be reached for comment, although press reports in the US have quoted a spokesperson denying the interview took place.

Some suggest the author must have based her article on misinterpretations of a news conference.
