Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have a new baby cousin.
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews welcomed a baby boy on Monday at 1.58pm, weighing 8lb and 9oz – the very same day Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they are expecting their first child.
According to sources, the happy couple are said to be ‘delighted’ with their new arrival and mother and baby are said to be ‘doing well’.
James and Pippa were spotted arriving at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital on Monday, carrying two overnight bags.
It’s not known if they are still in hospital or if they have now checked out.
For those wondering how Pippa’s baby son is linked the British Royal Family, let us explain…
Pippa is the youngest sister of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, who is married to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
They have three children themselves – Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, six months.
William’s brother Harry, 34, announced he is to become a dad for the first time on Monday with pregnant wife Meghan Markle. William doesn’t have any other siblings.
Kate and Pippa also have a brother, James Middleton, but he does not have any children.
This means Pippa and James’ son is George, Charlotte and Louis’ first-ever cousin. His birth also marks William and Kate becoming an uncle and aunt for the first time.
The new baby Matthews, however, has inherited himself four cousins.
As well as his three royal cousins, he is cousins with James’ brother Spencer Matthews and wife Vogue Williams’ son, Theodore Fredrick Michael, who was born earlier this year.
Pippa and James’ child is not related to any other members of the Royal Family and will not have a royal title.
New mum Pippa confirmed she was pregnant in June, ending months of speculation and revealing the happy news in her Waitrose magazine column.
Opening up about the first three months of her pregnancy, she admitted she’d not suffered the same bad morning sickness her sister had with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
‘I was lucky to pass the 12 week scan without suffering from morning sickness,’ she wrote.
‘That meant I was able to carry on as normal. This being my first pregnancy, I had so many questions I felt were still unanswered.’
Pippa also admitted she has had to tone down her exercise regime since falling pregnant too.
She added: ‘I’ve noticed my body change and weight increase – but through effective exercise and sports I feel that it’s being strengthened to support a healthy pregnancy, birth and recovery.’
She’s certainly kept herself busy during her pregnancy and was pictured at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Friday.
It was first reported that Pippa was expecting her first child in April, with reports at the time claiming she’d had her three-month scan that month and started telling friends and family.
Writing in her Waitrose Kitchen magazine column, Pippa revealed she has turned to meditation to help her mental well-being in her final stages of pregnancy.
She wrote: ‘As the final month nears and the bump grows prouder each day, movement is certainly getting more awkward.
‘The transformations to my body that are taking place as it prepares for childbirth have meant that the sound sleeps and the baby bubble effect have gone. Reality is finally kicking in.’
Describing her meditation practice, she added: ‘I was skeptical at first, but after practicing this discipline for the past month I have noticed a huge difference in my mental well-being and sense of clarity.
‘I signed up to a beginners’ meditation class recently to master the tools essential for performing it effectively.
‘This involved learning to meditate twice daily, ideally for 20 minutes, chanting a mantra, while sitting upright, eyes closed and focused. Our teacher stressed that we should ensure we always make time for this because there’s always an excuse not to.
‘It’s a good idea to take some well-being time for mummy-to-be now and, most importantly, for the future.’
Kate ‘could not have been more delighted’, The Sun On Sunday had reported at the time of the news first emerging.
Pippa and James are no doubt well prepared for parenthood now, having enjoyed an idyllic babymoon – the last holiday parents go on before their baby arrives – in Tuscany, Italy earlier this summer.
The pair are understood to have stayed at the five-star Il Pellicano Hotel, which is in the Porto Ercole cove.
