For a minute during tonight’s Bachelorette finale it looked like Ali Oetjen would be making a very different decision — and it drove viewers mad.
While runner-up Todd King happily told Ali he was in love with her and ready to be a father, the same can’t be said for winner Taite Radley.
During Ali’s final single date with Taite, the 28-year-old decided to drop a bombshell and tell Ali he wasn’t ready to commit to her three year timeline in which she wanted to get married and have kids.
“She has expectations around when she wants to get engaged,” Taite told producers. “ It’s something that I can’t commit to.”
Waiting until the very end of their time together, Taite told Ali he wasn’t ready for the same level as commitment.
“The only think that scares me is your timeline,” a nervous Taite told Ali. “I can’t commit to that.”
Fighting back tears after Taite’s admission, Ali told producers she was upset it had taken him so long to tell her something so important.
“I don’t understand why it’s taken him so long to tell me,” she vented. “It hurts … I’m just confused.”
Despite his commitment issues in the end Ali wasn’t scared off and she decided to take a chance on Taite rather than choose Todd.
“I’m willing to risk the hopes and dreams I came here with because I’m so in love with you,” Ali told Taite during the final moment.
“I came into this journey looking to fall in love. And I can honestly say that I’ve found it with you,” Taite replied.
Viewers had mixed feelings about Taite’s reluctance to commit, with some applauding his honesty and others telling Ali to run.
Taite is always going to feel the pressure of Ali’s drive to marriage and kids. It’s going to be a constant undercurrent. #DoomedToFail#BacheloretteAU

Ali has more chance of marriage and kids with Todd than Taite. One sees the future, the other is ducking and weaving. If she wants certainty and her timeline met, Todd is the safest bet. #BacheloretteAu

Sure Ali’s expectations about the outcomes of this show may be unrealistic but...her desire for kids is fair enough and having kids is not a straightforward, carefree process for everyone. I’m not gonna judge her for having an ideal timeline for her biology. #BacheloretteAU
