It’s that time of the year again — Melbourne Cup Day! Here’s a guide on where to watch the race that stops a nation, as well as the best events happening around Sydney this week.

FESTIVAL OF FUN
Barangaroo will be one of the best places in Sydney to celebrate the Cup. The waterfront will be buzzing with pop-up eateries and bars, a Mumm Champagne Terrace, Craft Beer Garden and live entertainment throughout the afternoon.
You can enjoy the coverage from the lounge chairs with a glass of champagne or relax in the beer garden with acoustic entertainment.
There will also be Eat Art Truck’s American barbecue street food, with the menu including eight-hour, hot smoked pulled pork burgers. For something sweet you can try Devon Cafe’s exclusive Cup Day cronuts.
There will be musical performances on the main stage from noon through to 9pm. Entry to the waterfront is free.

PLANAR RESTAURANT AND BAR
Darling Harbour’s Planar Restaurant and Bar is offering an afternoon of delicious food and great entertainment this Cup Day.
You will be treated to three hours of bottomless beer and wine, the restaurant’s signature dishes and a Fashion on the Field event to shine a spotlight on the fashionistas in attendance.
There will also be live race coverage on three large screens. It’s happening on Tuesday, tickets

Do you want to enjoy the races while you can also savour some stunning ocean views? Then head to the Manly Greenhouse for their Melbourne Cup special.
The ground floor will serve a special menu while the rooftop will have delicious canapés. All the races will be screened live on the rooftop level and there will be sweepstakes and prizes for the

Bondi’s Drake Eatery will be another excellent location to catch the races over lunch. Head chef Ian Oakes has crafted a spring menu of six courses and guests will receive a glass of bubbly on arrival.
There will be screens with live coverage of the race that stops the nation, sweepstakes and a lucky door prize. Tickets $95 per person.

LAWN PARTY
Fratelli Fresh Darling Harbour will host its inaugural Melbourne Cup lawn party to bring some Italian flavour to the big race day.
There will be bottomless cocktails, live music, DJs, and several outdoor televisions to give you all the big race day highlights. There will be an outdoor pizzeria station serving up Roman-style pizzas and there’ll be delicious canapés.

If you are looking for luxury this Melbourne Cup Day then celebrate at Seadeck Sydney.
This cocktail event offers three hours of food and beverages with live coverage of all the races on multiple screens aboard the cruise.
Seadeck’s executive chef Drew Bolton has prepared a custom menu and special cocktails have been designed by award-winning bartender Jason Crawley.
The event is not open to those under 18 years of age. The cruise will depart from King Street Wharf. Tickets for the Cup Day cruise will cost $175 per person.

SCULPTURES BY THE SEA
It’s the final weekend for Sydney art lovers to take in the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition.
There are 107 sculptures on display across the 2km long coastal walk between the beaches at Bondi and Tamarama.
There are various walking tracks available to choose from, depending on your level of mobility, and tactile tours for people with disabilities.
For those interested in learning more about the artists behind these works, there are free artist talks throughout today and tomorrow at Tamarama’s Marks Park.
You can also attend the closing ceremony tomorrow, where People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards will be handed out.

RISE OF TARONGASAURUS
