OVER the last few months, speculation over a rumoured “rift” between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton has reached fever pitch.

Since before Christmas, royal fans have questioned whether the two duchesses have been getting along, with rumours emerging that the sisters-in-law are “feuding”, The Sun reports.

Now, royal experts have weighed in to claim Meghan — who has only been a member of the royal family for eight months — “never stood a chance” in the popularity stakes against Kate.

Writing in the Guardian, Yomi Adegoke said: “Meghan’s casting as a Disney villain — a black female divorcee with a penchant for black dresses (another protocol breach) — practically writes itself.

“Meghan never stood a chance. When the duchesses do behave comparably, the reaction could not be more different.

“Like Meghan, Kate has broken protocol several times, by wearing dresses above the knee, with far less pearl-clutching from commentators.”

The rumours were fuelled further by a number of Meghan and Harry’s palace staff resigning from their roles, changes which journalist Cecilia Rodriguez called “inevitable”.

Writing for Forbes, she said: “New boss, new rules, new style.

“When a new member, by marriage, arrives, some changes are inevitable even in a royal court ruled by rigid protocol and tradition.

“After all, and unlike the rest of the royal family, all that Meghan is going through is totally new to her and she’s in the process of taking it all in — and adapting.”

Appearing together on Christmas Day, Meghan and Kate looked as happy as ever in each other’s company, arriving at St Mary Magdalene church on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The rumours first emerged after claims Meghan had been branded “Duchess Difficult” by Palace insiders after another of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s aides — Samantha Cohen — resigned from her role.

There were also claims Kate had told Meghan not to berate members of her team after she reportedly “b****cked” one of Kate’s staff.

The “rows” have been fiercely denied by the palace.
