When Ed Kavalee isn’t roasting Sam Pang on Have You Been Paying Attention, he’s on 2Day FM‘s Grant, Ed & Ash show covering the latest entertainment news going around the country. This morning, Kavalee had the utmost pleasure of speaking to Married At First Sight dude Sam, the one that said some questionable things about his MAFS wife Elizabeth before temporarily leaving the experiment to attend his ex-girlfriend’s mother’s funeral.
A light refresher: Sam said of his Australian size 10 wife, “I’ve never really dated girls as big as Elizabeth in the past” followed by the words “maybe I’ll get her running in the mornings or something, drag her out of bed. I don’t know. She’ll be right, we will get her going.”
Sam has since defended his words, arguing health and fitness is just a big deal for him and he has always “dated women in the fitness industry, that is just the truth.”
Confronted with these words on air, Sam said, “She’s a bigger girl than what I’m used to dating and on top of that, you know, she’s very tall. Massive personality, she’s not my type of girl and unfortunately, when she got out of the car, I wasn’t her type of man either. She thought I was chunky and tubby, I was brokenhearted.”
“I’ve been running my arse off ever since,” Sam added.
“Oh, so it’s her fault,” Ed said.
Insert awkward laughter.
After Sam cleared up some rumours about himself and Ines, Ed brought up how his comments about Lizzie had genuinely upset her.
“The comment that really resonated with me is the fact that he turned around and said ‘that must be why she’s not in a relationship, in the past, because it must be a problem – her weight’,” Lizzie can be heard saying in a snippet played on air.
Sam doesn’t “believe” he said these words which ticked Ed right off. So, the radio host told Sam he must be at a disadvantage because of the way he was being portrayed in the show to which Sam replied, “Not really, I’m not the victim at all.”
“Hang up, I’ve had this bloke. He is the worst,” Ed said.
“When a guy can go on radio and everywhere he goes, he has been body-shaming a woman on national television and his response is ‘haha, she said something about me, everyone online thinks I’m cool’. Once that becomes the norm for this season, we keep lowering the bar – low, low, low, low, low – there’s no end to it.
“This guy is awful, he is an awful, awful creep. And he’s just laughing it off and he will get something out of this. Someone is going to give that creep a job, it may well be my job, and good luck to him.”
