2Day FM host Ed Kavalee couldn’t hide his contempt for a Married At First Sight contestant during a live radio interview and eventually hung up on him.
Sam Ball went on the breakfast radio show to defend his behaviour on the Channel 9 reality show.
If you’re not watching Married At First Sight, Sam sparked outrage when he criticised his partner’s physique after seeing her for the first time.
“I’ve never really dated girls as big as Elizabeth in the past,” he said on the show. “She’s got a beautiful face. I’m just taking her for who she is. Not for her body image. Maybe I’ll get her running in the mornings. Drag her out of bed. She’ll be right.”
To make matters worse, he then bailed on his bride the morning after the wedding to fly to New Zealand to attend the funeral of his ex-girlfriend’s mum. Sam was gone for five days during which he made no attempt to contact Elizabeth.

Speaking on 2Day FM this morning, Sam stood by his comments about Elizabeth’s weight and said he was just being honest.
“She is a bigger girl than what I’m used to dating,” he said. “On top of that, she was very tall, massive personality. The hair extensions, everything was just full on for me. I’m more into natural girls and I just had to be true to myself and be honest really.
“Unfortunately when she got out of the car I wasn’t her type of man either, she thought I was chunky and tubby. I was broken-hearted,” Sam said.
“Oh, so it was her fault,” Kavalee said sarcastically.
“The whole country was pretty outraged,” Denyer said to Sam about his body shaming comments. “Are you receiving lots of negative stuff online?”
“Not at all, no I’m not. Everyone’s been really supportive,” Sam said, before saying only people in the media have been negative towards him.
The 2Day FM team then played Sam some audio of Elizabeth talking about an offensive comment he made to her during which he allegedly said she must be single because of her size.
He laughed after hearing the clip and then said, “Nah, I never said that”.
“You didn’t say that?” Kavalee questioned.
“I don’t believe I said that, did I?” Sam replied.
“Oh you don’t believe you said it,” Kavalee said. “See Sam, you’ve got an issue. All of the things that you’ve said that have been captured, then that’s not really the truth. But everything she said that nobody saw, we haven’t seen that, so you’re really at a disadvantage here, you poor thing.”
“Not really, I’m not the victim at all,” Sam said.
It was that comment that pushed Kavalee over the edge and he then let loose on the reality contestant before abruptly ending the interview.
“Newsflash, Sam is not the victim!” Kavalee said. “Sam, thank you, you are just one of the great guys. Hang up! I’ve had this bloke, he is the worst. God help me.
“He’s body shaming a woman on national television and his response is, ‘Haha, she said something about me, everybody online thinks I’m cool.’
“Once that becomes the norm for this season, we keep lowering the bar, there’s no end to it. It’s meant to be ridiculous and silly this show, that’s the point. This is the part where they’ve pushed it a point where you’re like, ‘This guy is awful. He is an awful, awful creep and he’s just laughing it off.’
“He will get something out of this. Someone is going to give this creep a job. It may well be my job and good luck to him,” Kavalee joked.
Grant, Ed & Ash airs weekdays from 6-9am on 104.1 2Day FM
