MAFS: Married At First Sight star Sam Ball’s ex girlfriend has shocking past - NEWS.com.au

A woman who claims she is dating Married At First Sight star Sam Ball has been identified as the high profile abductee at the centre of a defamation case brought by her own parents.

Akila Ahmunett, who was then known as Nadia Tabbaa, according to Woman’s Day, was at the centre of a 60 Minutes defamation case in 2017 after she featured in a story on the current affairs program titled ‘Forced Marriage’, which was broadcasted in 2014.

The Sydney woman, 30, told veteran reporter Liz Hayes her parents, Mouhammad and Pamela Tabbaa, allowed her to be kidnapped while on holiday in Egypt in 2002 when she was 13-years-old.

Ms Ahmunett said she was taken to live with her grandmother in the Middle East, was beaten by her father and forced to undergo a medical examination to check her virginity before marrying her cousin, who was in his 30s.

She said she didn’t manage to escape back to Sydney until she was 18.

Ms Ahmunett’s parents disputed her claims and brought a defamation case against the Nine Network, at the NSW Supreme Court in December 2017.

A jury found most of the imputations conveyed by the program were substantially true. Mouhammad and Pamela Tabbaa are understood to be appealing the decision.

Judging by recent photos of Ms Ahmunett from her social media accounts, she looks significantly different compared to when the program aired and has changed her name.

Ms Ahmunett told Who magazine earlier this month she had been dating Mr Ball since December last year, however Woman’s Day reports the relationship has recently ended.

The magazine claimed Mr Ball had taken an apprehended violence order out against Ms Ahmunett.

NSW Police told news.com.au: “On Monday 4 February 2019, a 26-year-old man contacted police about alleged domestic abuse involving a 30-year-old woman.

“Officers from Inner West Police Area Command commenced inquiries.

“About 2am on Friday 22 February 2019, police were called to an Alexandria home, where they located a 26-year-old man, and arrested a 30-year-old woman.

“The woman was taken to Newtown Police Station where she was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, use carriage service to menace/harass/offend, and enter prescribed premises of any person without lawful excuse.

“She was granted conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on Monday 4 March 2019.”

Ms Ahmunett told Who magazine in a story published on February 12 she met Mr Ball, a construction worker, through a mutual friend on Facebook at the start of 2018 and she claimed he pursued her during the filming of MAFS.

“He asked me out throughout the year, obviously I cancelled on him a few times,” she said. “But as soon as we met up we both ‘knew’ instantly.”

She said Mr Ball told her he loved her after less than a month of dating.

“He was away a few days spending Christmas with his family and drove back unexpectedly to surprise me and that’s when he told me he loved me and wanted to spend New Year’s Eve with me,” she said.
