Miley Cyrus took Liam Hemsworth's name - 'I didn't ask her to' - Stuff.co.nz

Miley Cyrus' name is now Miley Ray Hemsworth, according to her new husband actor Liam Hemsworth.

Speaking about his recent nuptials on US entertainment talk show Kelly and Ryan, Hemsworth said it was a surprise that Miley wanted to change her name.

"I think that was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn't ask her to take my name, but then she's like, 'No, of course I'm taking your name,' " he said.

Hemsworth said although she's a Hemsworth to him, the 26-year-old Wrecking Ball singer still be "Miley Cyrus" professionally. 

The Independence Day II star said he changed Miley's name to "wife" in his phone not long after they were married, and that the pair have been enjoying being "normal" and wife and husband" since their big day. 

The couple married privately - and without the usual celebrity fanfare - on December 25, which Hemsworth told the show was "spur-of -the moment", at Miley's family home
