The Kissing Booth 2: Netflix teen romance movie gets sequel - NEWS.com.au

Grab your lip balm and some loose change.

Netflix has confirmed plans for a sequel to The Kissing Booth, the wildly popular teen rom-com starring Joey King and Jacob Elordi.

The story centres around Elle Evans, who finds herself caught up in a forbidden romance after coming face-to-face with her best friend’s brother at a kissing booth at their school’s spring carnival.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Netflix's other teen movie juggernaut, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, is also getting a second instalment.

One of The Kissing Booth’s stars, Joel Courtney, made the announcement in a tweet on Thursday.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! It’s official! The Kissing Booth #2 announcement,” he told his followers.

King also tweeted out the promo video, writing: “YUP!!! WE’RE GETTING A SEQUEL!”

Elordi, who is dating King in real life, is also confirmed to reprise his role.

The first movie, adapted from a Beth Reekles novel, was a huge hit on Netflix, with the service’s content chief Ted Sarandos claiming at one point it was “one of the most-watched movies in the country, and maybe in the world”.

No plot details for The Kissing Booth sequel have been yet been released, but pre-production is currently underway with shooting expected to begin later this year.

The Kissing Booth 2 is likely to drop on Netflix in 2020.
