Gold Coast stripper faces court over alleged glassing of Neighbours star Scott McGregor - ABC Local

Neighbours star Scott McGregor has testified in court about a stripper who allegedly glassed him in a club at Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast after the Melbourne-based actor allegedly told her to "f*** off, you're a dirty s***".

Key points:

  • CCTV footage shows actor Scott McGregor and stripper Danielle Lee having a brief conversation that ends with Ms Lee walking away, but then a glass strikes Mr McGregor in the mouth
  • The footage does not show Ms Lee throwing the glass
  • Ms Lee has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm with an offensive instrument, with the hearing adjourned until October 8 where she will give evidence

The married actor walked into a Gold Coast strip club in April this year and had a brief verbal exchange with stripper Danielle Lee.

The Southport Magistrates Court heard the Melbourne-based actor had attended a charity event on the Gold Coast on April 5 where alcohol was being supplied.

He then left that event and drank an unknown number of drinks with a group of friends, before attending Hollywood Showgirls in Orchid Avenue, in the early hours April 6.

While at the strip club's bar, the well-known actor was approached by Ms Lee.

CCTV footage played in the Southport Magistrates Court today showed the pair engage in a brief conversation, which ended with Ms Lee walking away, and seconds later, a glass then struck Mr McGregor in the mouth.

The footage does not show Ms Lee throwing the glass.

The actor gave evidence at Ms Lee's hearing today, where she pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm with an offensive instrument.

When asked by Ms Lee's barrister, Scott Funch, how much he had drunk that night, Mr McGregor replied: "I can't recall."

"If you're insinuating I was drunk or inebriated I would say you are wrong," Mr McGregor said.

Mr McGregor was then asked about the conversation he and Ms Lee had when they met.

"There wasn't a lot of small talk, because it turned into aggressive behaviour," Mr McGregor said.

Mr Funch told the court Ms Lee had approached Mr McGregor in the club to engage him in conversation.

"It's none of your business why I am here," the actor allegedly said to the stripper.

The court heard Ms Lee had replied: "If you're going to talk to me like that then maybe you should leave?"

Mr Funch then asked Mr McGregor if he had replied: "you should just f*** off, you're a dirty s***. You're a s*** and I am better than you — f*** off, you f****** s***."

The actor repeatedly denied that he spoke to Ms Lee in that way.

"I'm not the sort of person to throw those sort of words around," Mr McGregor said.

When asked what Ms Lee allegedly said to Mr McGregor moments before he was glassed, the actor replied "she most definitely called me a f***ing c***."

The actor, who plays a police detective on the soap drama Neighbours, then went to the nearby Surfers Paradise Police Station to make a formal complaint and seek medical treatment by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics for a cut to his lip.

Mr McGregor did not comment to the media waiting outside the Southport court after he had finished giving his evidence.

Magistrate Mark Howden adjourned the hearing until October 8, when Ms Lee is expected to give her evidence.
