The pressures of The Block became too much for contestant Tess during Tuesday’s episode, as she stormed off-site after a tense confrontation with host Scott Cam, declaring the show was “destroying” her.
Cam had dropped by Tess and husband Luke’s house to deliver another sermon about their poor budgeting and lack of funds — but Tess didn’t want to hear it, leaving her husband to face Cam alone.

“She ran away ’cause she heard I was coming? What’s going on, mate?” Cam asked, before laying it out for Luke: The couple have somehow managed $25,000 more on trades than any other couple — and that’s even with Luke being a fully qualified builder.
After giving Luke a talking to, Cam tracked down Tess outside.
“I just didn’t really want to be yelled at today,” she told him. “Do we send everyone home and not finish? What do you want us to do?”
“I feel as though you think I don’t want you to finish, or our team doesn’t want you to finish,” Cam said. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”
In a to-camera interview, Tess and Luke confirmed that that’s exactly what they think — that The Block wants them to fail.
An emotional Tess abruptly walked off from the conversation, swearing as she left. “I don’t know what to say,” Cam told viewers.
Soon, Tess was shown venting to the show’s crew, who desperately tried to coax her back on site.
“I just want to be left alone. I’m not coping. I’m so sick of it — I can’t do this anymore,” she said as the cameras kept their distance.
“This is literally destoying us. It is. Luke and I f***ing HATE each other, we don’t stop fighting. What this is doing to us is not good.”
Eventually, Luke was summoned to talk his wife back onto the show. She’s staying — for now.
“We’re, like, newlyweds. And we’re having the worst time of our life. I, mentally, don’t think I can keep going,” Tess said.
Later in the episode, in an effort to lift their spirits and show that The Block really does want them to succeed, foremen Keith and Dan front up to Tess and Luke’s house with a posse of Block-supplied tradies to pitch in for two hours of free labour.
It’s a nice gesture — but it ruffled the feathers of Block frontrunners Mitch and Mark, who asked why the show’s last-place contestants were being bailed out again.
“They need help because they don’t know how to complete their house?” asked Mark. “It’s interesting that extra resources are being put into house two. Is it fair? Probably not.”
The Block airs 7.30pm Monday to Wednesday and 7pm Sunday on Nine.
