Gary Janetti Instagram: Janetti to write a comedy series on the royals for HBO - NEWS.com.au

Move over, The Crown.

There’s a cheeky new TV series centred around the British royal family coming to screens, and it’s written by none other than Gary Janetti – the man behind the sassiest royal fan account on Instagram.

Janetti, who was the executive producer of Will and Grace and previously wrote for Family Guy, will pen a series called The Prince based on his popular satirical Instagram account which provides a running commentary on the goings-on of the royals through the eyes of six-year-old Prince George.

While the series is set to feature on a new US streaming service called HBO Max, it may become available in Australia via Foxtel.

Janetti will voice Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton, with other members of the voice cast including: Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, Condola Rashad as Meghan Markle, Lucy Punch as Kate Middleton, Tom Hollander as both Prince Philip and Prince Charles, Alan Cumming as George’s butler Owen, Frances De La Tour as Queen Elizabeth, and Iwan Rheon as Prince William.

It will be produced by 20th Century Fox.

“I’m thrilled to be working at HBO Max and bringing them yet another series about a family ruthlessly fighting for the throne,” said Janetti in a statement provided toVariety.

“We’re so excited to bring the world Gary’s created on Instagram over to HBO Max, where our viewers can discover what his Instagram fans already know – that George can be hilarious, shocking, and surprisingly sweet,” the publication quoted Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max.

“We can’t wait to see what Gary does with a bigger canvas to paint on than just a 1:1 square.”

The announcement comes amid weeks of drama for the royal family, following the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, opting for a quieter life spent mostly in Canada.

Buckingham Palace this week announced that the couple are to lose their royal titles of “His Royal Highness” and “Her Royal Highness,” with questions still hovering over the fate of their “Sussex Royal” brand.

Speaking at an event in London last week before joining his wife Meghan and son Archie in Vancouver, Prince Harry said the decision was not one the couple made lightly.

“It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges,” he said. “And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.”
