Channel 10 were on an absolute bloody winner when they cast Sophie Monk as The Bachelorette, and if today’s reports turn out to be true, they may have done it again, with a rumour that they have cast Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins in the next season of The Bachelor.
According to both Woman’s Day and The Daily Telegraph, the larrakin rubby union star, who has been the face of Tradie underwear and done tongue-in-cheek ads for Tourism Australia, is set to begin wooing women in the Bachelor mansion shortly.
A source who claims to be close to the production told Woman’s Day: “He’s going to be great for the franchise. Funny, witty, with a huge cult following. This is a stroke of genius for the network.” You’ve got that bloody right.
No offense to Matty J and friends, but really, what other Bachelor can compete with this raw, animal magnetism and sexuality?
Cummins took the name Honey Badger from the fierce, carnivorous creature known for its defensive capabilities. He once explained:
“There was a documentary on National Geographic or Animal Planet, one of them Fox bloody setups. Yeah, I watched this thing and this honey badger was going toe to toe with a male lion. And um, he was underneath him – underdog, obviously – on his back, clawing away, one two and then bloody, the big fella got his canastas clawed off and he trod off round the corner and fell over, and the badger gets back up and I thought, what an animal. You know, that’s bloody … that’s impressive.”
Neither Cummins nor Ten have made an official comment on the rumoured casting, but we are praying to the TV gods that this turns out to be real, because holy shit, there’s only one way to match the inspired genius of Sophie Monk’s casting, and this bloke is it.
