Love Island host Sophie Monk to miss Gold Coast Logies

HOMEGROWN star Sophie Monk will miss the Gold Coast Logies because of filming commitments with Channel 9.

Speaking to The Courier-Mail on the Gold Coast yesterday, Monk said she was due to travel to Mallorca in mid-May to host Love Island before she would film a travel special for the network in Spain with friend and producer Oscar Gordon.

The TV Week Logies, broadcast on Channel 9 and held at The Star on the Gold Coast for the first time this year, was pushed back from April to July 1 to make way for the Commonwealth Games.

“I’m so bummed because the year (the Logies) is on the Gold Coast I’m not here,” Monk said. “I was really looking forward to it too.”

Monk’s absence is the latest blow for the event after radio stars including Dave Hughes complained that the date coincided with their annual holiday period.

But Monk said it was important to return to television work following her failed bid for love on The Bachelorette.

She said the travel special could potentially become a series.

“We are just doing Spain while we’re over there. It’s just a special. We’ll see how it goes. If the audience hates it and they don’t like then we don’t want to do it,” she said.

“I’m in such a good place. Everything’s blown over and it’s now about going back to what I do.”

Monk added that she hadn’t been dating since her split from Stu Laundy.

“I don’t meet anyone. That’s why I went on (The Bachelorette), so I would be back in the dating game if there was anyone datable that I met, but there’s no one really around,” she said.

“I’m a bit of a hermit because if I go out I get stopped for photos and it can feel like work.

“But people are nicer about it now. They feel like they’re my friend. That was the only good thing to come out of it by the end.”
