Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough's first public appearance since commitment ceremony

DESPITE a horror few weeks for Karl Stefanovic, the Today host was all smiles as he stepped out with fiancee Jasmine Yarbrough for the couple’s first public engagement since their “commitment ceremony” last month.

Stefanovic, who jetted in from his morning hosting duties on the Gold Coast, arrived at Sydney’s Barangaroo precinct for the Witchery Ovarian Cancer White Shirt Campaign on Wednesday. Both Stefanovic and Yarbrough briefly mingled with celebrities and ambassadors before he took to the stage to host the annual event.

Speaking to news.com.au following the launch, Stefanovic said the event was close to his heart, and an important cause for the women around him.

“The last couple of months I’ve been able to reflect on the really important things in my life, and they are women,” he said.

“I look around and everyone who is really close to me are women. For me, it’s important because I don’t want women around me to get this [Ovarian Cancer] and if they do, I want it to be diagnosed early.”

Stefanovic and Yarbrough, who last month sealed their love in a top-secret commitment ceremony in Sydney’s Palm Beach, said the cause was especially important because the disease failed to receive the attention it deserves.

“Nothing sharpens you more than a disease that can take your life,” Stefanovic said.

“Women in my life are so important, and they are a rock for me so anything I can give back to them in terms of my profile and using whatever profile I have ... and if charities will have me then I’m in.

“[Jasmine and I] don’t do things because of an agenda set by people. We do things by an agenda set by us.”

Yarbrough, 32, who started dating Stefanovic in 2017, was the one who instigated his involvement in the White Shirt Campaign, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.

“All your women [Karl] are your supporters,” she said.

“This is the important part in life and not the rest.”

“Ovarian cancer for me doesn’t get as much attention,” Karl said.

“I have had family friends who have died. To have women in my life who have had it and a couple who have got through and others who haven’t ... it resonates.”

Stefanovic and his brother Peter have spent the past few weeks in recovery mode, after an Uber driver released intimate details about a conversation the pair had about colleagues, bosses and shows on the Nine Network.

According to the Uber driver, who did an exclusive interview with New Idea, Stefanovic vented his frustration at new Today co-host Gardner, who he accused of “sitting on the fence” and not having enough opinions. The driver also claimed Karl became angry as he declared that she needed to “step up” if she “wanted to stay on the show.”

During the Today show on Wednesday, which was broadcasted live from the Gold Coast ahead of the Commonwealth Games, guest Sophie Monk revived the Uber discussion during her interview with Stefanovic and Gardner.

Speaking through wind and rain, the former Bachelorette and Bardot singer couldn’t resist dropping a not-so-subtle dig about his recent Uber scandal into their chat.

“There is no traffic,” Monk said of her hometown. “My Uber got here in four seconds. I didn’t say anything in the Uber though.”

“You never know. You do like talking,” the hosts offered, gamely.

“I know, but I have stopped since that whole thing. I bitch too much,” Monk continued.

“About the weather?” they asked her.

“Yeah, among other things. Should we move on? Sorry.”
