- Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been cancelled and will not be renewed after 5 seasons
- Lin-Manuel Miranda, Seth Meyers and Mark Hamill tweeted about their shock
- The final Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode will be aired on Sunday, May 20, 2018
FOX has cancelled Brooklyn Nine-Nine after five seasons and the show will not be renewed for a sixth, despite the US police comedy experiencing a recent rise in ratings.
Created by Parks and Recreation writers Dan Goor and Michael Schur, Brooklyn Nine-Nine focuses on New York Detective Jake Peralta, played by Andy Samberg and Twitter users expressed their outrage at the news of the show being cancelled.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Seth Meyers, Mark Hamill and Sean Astin were among those who took to the social media site to use the hashtag #Renew99 and comment on the show’s unexpected cancellation.
But like so many others, they also hoped that Hulu would save Brooklyn Nine-Nine as it had done for FOX’s The Mindy Project. But why was Brooklyn Nine-Nine cancelled?
What is Brooklyn Nine-Nine?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine launched on FOX in September 2013 and was created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur.
SNL’s Andy Samberg plays the lead character of Jake Peralta and his at first, tumultuous relationship with Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) is a continuing sub plot throughout the show, including his conflict with Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher).

Other cast members include Terry Crews, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blockers and Joel McKinnon Miller, who all play members of Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a single-camera series, a technique associated with Michael Schur after he used the same style to film his show The Office, to produce the look of a documentary.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine episodes
FOX ordered 13 episodes for the first season and later expanded it to 22.
The show has received critical acclaim and went on to win two Creative Arts Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, one for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy and one for Andy Samberg for Best Actor.
In May 2017, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was renewed for its fifth season, but a year later, FOX announced that this would be the show’s last season. The network also cancelled The Last Man on Earth and The Mick.
Why was Brooklyn Nine-Nine cancelled?
AlthoughBrooklyn Nine-Nine garnered substantial ratings from its launch, scored a Season 2 renewal and a post-Super Bowl slot, constant scheduling changes between Sundays and Tuesdays has been called out as the reason for a ratings dip.
After a hiatus, Brooklyn Nine-Nine returned to television for its usual 8:30pm Sunday slot in 2018 and saw a rise in ratings, but this was not enough for FOX to continue airing the show despite it being the network’s second longest-running show behind New Girl.

How to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on TV
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is on every Sunday at 8:30/7:30c. The final episode will be on television on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine petition
After the announcement of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s cancellation, many took to Change.org to set up petitions for FOX to go back on their decision.
One petitioner, ‘Scary Terry’, said: ‘We want Season 6 for the TV show Brooklyn nine-nine because it lights up our life and makes the world a better place. But, Fox might cancel the show and we cannot let that happen.’
Another named Hannah encouraged fans of the show to sign her petition, stating that: ‘Brooklyn nine nine was cancelled by Fox.
‘We, the fans of Brooklyn Nine Nine, want to encourage streaming sites such as Netflix or Hulu to pick up the show and renew it for a 6th Season.
‘This petition shows the support and enthusiasm for the show being picked up.’ Her petition has been signed by over 18,000 people.

Even the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast got involved with Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy Santiago declaring that the show has the best fans and that she is having a difficult time processing the news.
I am still processing... don’t have all the words.. but.. These last 5 years have been incredible. Thank you for all your love and support. We have the best fans. It’s been a huge honor to play Amy and be a part of this tremendous ensemble. NINE NINE! #Brooklyn99 pic.twitter.com/nmBFA2rm6I

THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS#RenewB99
Here’s the thing about Brooklyn 99 being cancelled, I don’t want it to be. I love all of those people & they earned the right 2 have a final season victory lap where I could emotionally prepare. Don’t know them. Have nothing 2 do with the show. I’m just a fan who deserves better.

Fans also took to Twitter and used popular memes and clips from the show to express their appreciation for and their sadness at the cancellation. Some were also angry at Big Bang Theory still being on air.
Brooklyn 99 getting canceled but the big bang theory still being on tv is a microcosm for how truly idiotic this trash country is

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a funny show with LGBT, POC and Latinx rep, is getting canceled to make room for Tim Allen's Last Man Standing, another show about a white, Trump supporting family.
This sucks. #Brooklyn99

#Brooklyn99 SHOULD NOT BE CANCELED. As a minority, it very impotent to se females and males of color as positive role models. #Brooklyn99 is more than a show.
