Pink answers grieving girl's wish for a hug at Brisbane concert

A 14-year-old girl grieving the recent loss of her mother has been sent "a hug from heaven" after pop star Pink pulled her out of the crowd for a hug, selfie, and motivational chat at one of her concerts this week.

Leah Murphy flew from north Queensland to Brisbane with friends and family to attend one of Pink's performances.

Her mother Debbie, who passed away in June, had tickets to attend one of Pink's Australian shows.

Pink and her music was one of the many bonds Leah shared with her mother, so her aunt, Katrina Donkin, endeavoured to set up a special moment between the two at Monday's show.

During the concert on Monday, Ms Donkin, Leah and friends held up signs hoping to grab the singer's attention during the concert.

"It read, 'Hi, my name's Leah. I'm 14 years old and I just lost my beautiful mum. I would love a hug'," Ms Donkin said.

"Once Pink got down to the quiet music she was looking out to the crowd, that's when I started waving the sign.

"I had strangers in the crowd grab them off us as well and start waving them. It was just enough for Pink to say, 'what is that?'."

"She couldn't read it, but someone handed her a little brochure about Leah and she read it out."

Crowds parted so Ms Donkin and her niece could make it to the front row.

"I just whispered in her ear, 'you're going to get your hug, sweetheart. We're going to get you the hug'," Ms Donkin said.

"We ended up at the front row and Pink just held her for … it felt like 20 seconds.

"And Leah's only 14, she's a teeny-tiny little thing and she just sobbed uncontrollably in her arms.

"Pink was just so genuine, she said, 'hey, don't cry, everything's going to be okay'.

"Pink took a selfie with her, signed her arm in marker, and then hopped back on the stage and said, 'everyone call your mum'."

Ms Donkin said Leah hasn't stopped talking about that moment.

"I haven't seen her smile so much since. Her dad said he woke up feeling happy today, happier than he has been in a long time," she said.

"I just really feel it was a hug from heaven. I do feel her mum orchestrated the whole thing."

She said Pink's music spoke volumes to Leah.

"She relates to the music, I think she's grieving through the lyrics and it's helping her process it.

"She's just a huge, huge fan of Pink, and so was her mum, so it was just amazing she took the time to give her a hug."

Tickets accidentally left at home, flown to Brisbane

Leah's special moment with Pink almost didn't happen — the night before the concert Ms Donkin realised the tickets were still on her bedside table in Cairns, more than 1,680 kilometres away.

"I rang my neighbour, my neighbour broke into my house and got them and handed them to someone I know who works on the check-in desk at Qantas," Ms Donkin said.

"She then asked the pilots of a flight that arrived in Brisbane at lunch time if they could take them down and they said yes.

"They handed delivered them to me … I went back out to the airport and the captain walked off and gave me an envelope."
