Celebrities unleash a torrent of criticism of Kanye West's wild White House meeting with Donald Trump

CELEBRITIES have reacted in anger and amazement following Kanye West’s meeting with US president Donald Trump at the White House last week.

At the meeting West wore a red MAGA ball cap, which he claimed made him feel like “Superman”.

In an impromptu, 10-minute monologue, West spoke about US manufacturing, ending “stop and frisk” in Chicago, business, crime and punishment, and why Mr Trump needs defending: “He has to be the freshest, the flyest, have the flyest planes. He has to look good!”

Among the many incendiary comments West made at the lunch, he proclaimed that “Trump is on his hero’s journey right now.”

Fellow music stars have threatened to cut ties with the rap star and fashion designer after he lunched with Mr Trump, his daughter Ivanka Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner.

Those assembled dined on a lunch of caprese salad, roast chicken, and discussed an agenda including the topics of “record highs in African-American employment, the creation of manufacturing jobs … the massive violent crime surge in Chicago”, and prison reform. African-Americans are incarcerated at more than five times the rate of whites.

But for many, the Trump-West summit was an embarrassing display, and painful to watch.

Fellow African-American newscaster Don Lemon said that the visit was “a minstrel show”, referring to an antiquated and racist form of entertainment.

West “needs help”, he said, claiming that the rapper is being used as a pawn by Mr. Trump to get black voters on side.

Other celebrities were less kind to West, including fellow rapper T.I, who says he is “officially done” with Kanye and accused him of a desperate act of ingratiating himself with Mr Trump.

T.I. “This is the most repulsive, disgraceful, Embarrassing act of desperation & auctioning off of one’s soul to gain power I’ve ever seen.” (sic)

T.I. posted on Instagram that West acted “spinelessly”.

“You [put] a** kissing and boot licking on a whole new level & I refuse to associate myself with something so vile, weak,& inconsiderate to the effect this has on the greater good of ALL OUR PEOPLE!!!!” (sic)

In his lengthy post T.I. said he was “ashamed” to be associated with West and that he has left his fans “confused, heartbroken, infuriated” by these “antics”.

T.I. said that West initially asked him to join him in his meeting with Mr. Trump but he declined the offer.

“We just saw Mr. West’s Soul on auction. If you listen closely you can hear the tears of our ancestors hit the floor. All I can say is … I’ve reached my limits. This is my stop, I’m officially DONE!!!!”

Comedian Chelsea Handler tweeted, “Kanye West says he thinks of Trump as a father. Guess who doesn’t think of Kanye as a son?”

Handler once called West “a maniac” and “delusional”.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti replied to a photo of West, 41, hugging Trump with a very simple caption:

Earlier this week, the Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson spoke out against Kanye West’s appearance on the show during which he wore a “Make America Great” hat and delivered an unscripted pro-Trump speech to the studio audience.

Davidson said that West wore the cap all week during rehearsals and contrary to West’s allegations that he was bullied about the hat, the show’s producers and cast did not bully him.

Grande defended her future husband and threw West some shade, posting a Boomerang which was addressed to Davidson, “I love you like Kanye loves Kanye.”
