Meghan Markle had a secret Instagram account until last month — but shut it down after comments from trolls made her feel “unsafe”.
The pregnant Duchess had given up all her social media accounts in January 2018 after getting engaged to Prince Harry.

A royal insider told The Sun that she had been using a fake account to follow her friends but was so upset by the negative backlash she closed the account at Christmas to “protect her mental health”.
The source said Meghan, 37, was left feeling “isolated” after reports she had been dubbed “Duchess Difficult” by staff and had made Kate Middleton cry in the run-up to the royal wedding.
The friend explained: “Did this upset her? Of course it did.
“She was working on all her projects in private, but couldn’t say anything publicly as her patronages hadn’t been announced.
“Since she shut down her public Instagram, she’d had a fake account to follow her friends.
“There was some really vile stuff written by social media trolls and obviously she also saw the headlines about her.
“It really got to her and, in the end, she had to shut down that account just before Christmas, too, to protect her mental health. She felt very isolated and alone.”
Meghan — who is expecting her first baby with Prince Harry in April — was so rattled by the comments she feared for her own safety.
The source said: “She doesn’t feel safe enough to go out on her own without protection.
“There are certain things she’s extremely paranoid about, such as being physically attacked.”
The former Suits actor was very active in Instagram before meeting Harry, regularly posting pictures of her swanky Toronto house.
But working royals are banned from having social media accounts.
Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice are the most senior royals to have Instagram accounts.
