Pete Davidson has addressed his alarming social media post from last month that caused much concern about the 25-year-old comedian.
During the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, John Mulaney explained that he was teaching Davidson that “you can have a life in comedy that is not insane,” to which the latter quipped: “After observing John’s life, I publicly threatened suicide.” On a more serious note, Mulaney assured his friend, “You are loved by many and we are glad you are OK.”
The rest of the segment saw the pair discuss their love of Clint Eastwood‘s new film The Mule.
ICYMI: Pete shared a concerning screenshot of a paragraph he’d written on the Notes app in his phone which led fans and celeb friends of the comic to believe that he was suicidal.
“i really don’t want to be on this earth anymore,” Davidson shared. “i’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last. all i’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so.”
The post was deleted shortly after posting, along with Davidson’s entire Instagram account.
Per reports in the New York Times, police were then called to perform a welfare check on Davidson.
NYPD officers arrived at the Manhattan studio where SNL is filmed, and confirmed that the young comedian was currently there. A representative for NBC also contacted police to let them know that Davidson is “fine.”
Prior to his post, Davidson, who has been open in the past about his struggles with borderline personality disorder, had praised Kanye West for speaking out about his own experiences, saying:
“Bravo Kanye West for standing up for yourself and speaking out against mental health. I can’t explain to you enough how difficult and scary it is to be honest about stuff like this. We need people like Kanye. No one should ever point fingers at you for your bravery in speaking about mental health. I’m seriously disgusted.”
His concerning Instagram post led to an outpouring of support on social media:
Am hearing Pete Davidson is at SNL and accounted for.
We are thinking of you, Pete.
You are loved.
(And just a heads up, when you finally turn on your cell, it’s gonna go apeshit for a little while) https://t.co/erUaTcPSdw
